2010 Hyundai Equus Interior

It is always in the run up to a major motor show that leaks begin to surface. Such is the case with the much talked about 2010 Hyundai Equus. The executive-level luxury car will be shown off as a second generation in March.

We got a taste of the exterior two days ago, when the Equus was shown off to journalists in Korea. So confident is Hyundai in the competitiveness of their executive car, that they gave the journos the opportunity to do a side by side comparison with the Lexus LS460L and the Mercedes-Benz S350.

Now we get a peek at the interior, showing a 2 + 2 configuration kitted out with leather upholstery and a nicely toned wood trim. Piano black lacquer also looks to be available. Rear passengers get the benefit of a center console with several different compartments, buttons and controls. These presumably control a separate climate system, and the audio system.

In front, a large LCD screen is built into the dash, but not dominated by too many buttons, as so many center consoles are these days. The driver has quick access to features on an upgraded steering wheel. Also included is the Driver Information System, Hyundai's answer to iDrive. Multi-directional seating is functioned by the buttons built into the door sill.

Supposedly, this car has a 17-speaker Lexicon music system cranking out 500 watts of sound. If that doesn't cushion you, maybe the nine airbags will.

Hyundai has yet to confirm the appearance of the new 2010 Hyundai Equus at the Geneva Motor Show, but the car is due to go on sale that same week. With a little luck, we'll get to play around with this thing in a few weeks.

I have to say... It's Looks Really nice inside. Would look better with bigger wheels 19" 20" Maybe. But will it drive as well as it's rivals. And if it does all i can say is well done. "Cracking car".

OUCH!!! That's hot. When Hyundai came to America in the late 80's, they were the butt of many a joke. Not anymore.

Only the Americans aren't progressing, or even going backward. Shameful...

Hmm, I see so many elements from Cadillac, Lexus, Merc and others so it's no use counting, but we have to get use to it, this is what Hyundai dose, and the logo from the steering wheel, look almost as a Honda logo.

I don't think the logo looks like the Honda at all. No point of the logo reminds Honda. And the logo has used from 1st Generation Equus

no "still a hyundai" comments, I'm a bit surprised lol

Hyundai can make high quality and decently priced cars, now they're going upwards and that's great cause Genesis proved they have great abilities to do it

Although these still aren't my personal taste in cars, I have to say that I am hugely impressed with the progress Hyundai has made. Cheers to them.

Even if it has some elements from other car makers i think Hyundai are getting there. Theyve improved alot but i still dont see Merc and Lexus customers moving to Hyundai yet .. But a huge change since they released the Genesis good job Hyundai

when VW released their Phaeton, which I must say it was some car (I still like it today - simple and teutonic design for the exterior), their hope was that this car will make an entrance for VW as a premium - luxury car brand producer (strictly VW)... but it was a wrong bet... and a huge sales failure! If you wanna buy one as second hand today, you can find it almost for nothing compared to it's "new" price... the point of all this? If someone wants a premium-luxury car, in my opinion, will go for a well established brand not for a new one that builds small people's cars! I'm not saying that this Equus looks bad (although it's like chinese cars copying the BMW X5, Smart, Fiat Panda, etc, nothing original, nothing new, nothing to make you turn your head when seeing one), but it's not something that many people will consider if they want to spend at least 30K (euro's) or so for a new car! BTW: I think they (Hyundai designers) should have been more original in their quest for market shares or maybe they thought that a successful existing competition design will work just fine... sorry for them

phaeton was what...100k?(USD)

if hyundai were to release this car it should be priced around 50~60k, 5 series price range. 7 series for a money of 5 series kind of campaign,,,,,it's still too expensive for hyundai though,,

meh, the plastics look cheap probably fake wood, and pleather. Plus i woulnd feel special in one of these even if those 3 statements werent true becuase at the end of the day it is still only a Hyundai. I think it is ok that Hyundai are trying to improve their brand name but i dont think that they will every be concidered as a luxury brand that competes with BMW, MB and Audi

Car manufacturers, please, if you have to have a wood interior, look at how Jaguar does a wood interior in the XF. If you then decide that adding a few acres of tacky fake wood instead somehow makes your car 'upmarket' or luxurious, promptly punch yourself in the face a few times. Fake/fake looking wood in cars is as classy as wearing a tuxedo tshirt at a wedding. Let fake wood interiors go the way of perms, mullet hairstyles and shoulderpads in jumpers, they don't belong in the 21st century. let them die, its the only humane thing to do.

you know when you want to buy for yourself something really cool ( LCD TV,phone , laptop or anything ) and you don't have enough money to buy the original and you find a chinese knock-off that looks the same and it's 10 times cheaper ? this is it

But it doesn't look like the real thing, it looks like a cheap knock-off, and though the wood is real, as i've said they've managed to make it look fake. Again, look how the Jag XF does a wood interior, thats classy. The wood looks natural and real, it isn't polished up to the point it looks plastic.

Actually, they used real wood on this thing,

To all the haters out there, just try to remember the first generation Lexus LS, or Infiniti Q(arguable the most innovative design at that time) or my personal favorite Acura Legend. They were all "just" glorified Toyotas and nissans and hondas! The Lexus was originally dogged for looking like a MB knockoff! You cannot argue that Hyundai is trying and in many ways succeeding in elevating their brand image and their cars have gotten better and better everytime! My father owns a Genesis and trust me, i was a total Hyundai hater myself, but after driving it and seeing my father live with this car for the past year, the car is nothing short of fantastic! to all who complain about things failing...I and my family have owned many cars (Audi, Infiniti, Lexus, MB etc) and there is always gonna be a lemon here or there. Don't hate it til you've tried it. this is probably gonna be a fanastic car with a sublte uniqueness to it's style.
