How does it differ from the R10? Different engine capacity? Increased frugality? It now runs on the tears of squirrels?

Just look at the thing. It has a much wider front nose, The rear bodywork is tighter, New engine.. Virtually the whole car is new.

I don't get it, what they trying to prove with this diesel thing, the future belongs to electric and hydrogen cars anyway.

they are proving their diesel technology while everyone else are using petrol, just slightly better, nothing much.

- figure out the ratio between the diesel cars sold today (and let's say in the next 5 years) and the number of hidrogen powered cars in the same amount of time, and you'll have one reason why they do this.
- think about the fact that Audi make soprtscars with diesel engines (low fuel consumption - thus making owning a sportscar affordable) and you'll have the second reason why they do this.

hYdrogen...
And Audi doesnt make diesel sportscars...R8 is petrol thus far, V10 will be petrol as well...RS 4, RS 6 (if u consider these cars as sportscars) are all petrol...Audi Q7 3.o TDi is NOT a sportscar...
This is the best way for a company to improve...audi has the best diesel engine a couple years running (3.0 tdi) and I believe it is due to the R&D they do to get the R15 running...but I draw tears everytime a diesel wins:(

Hydrogen and electric cars might be what is next, but there is no solution for NOW. That is why Audi is doing this. We have had diesel engine for years that will destroy any current hybrid in fuel efficiency. If you want an example look at the VW Polo Blue Motion. Most fuel efficient car in the world with 70 plus MPG. Also, diesel engines are more clean to make than a hybrid or electric car. Do some research into hybrid manufacturing and where they get those giant batteries from. The company that make the batteries for the Prius and other hybrids and charged millions a year for pollution the world electric is not the way to go unless the type of batteries used changes. Audi is also proving that diesel engine are not a compromise to petrol. They are cleaner and quieter today than diesel from the past. Audi is out to prove that diesel engine aren't a joke. Consider this, the first diesel engine was a hybrid from the start. It was originally designed to run off of cocoanut oil and it still can fun off of alternative fuels today.
It's all done for a purpose not just for the hell of it.

I disagree that Audi has had the best diesel engine for the last couple of years. The new 330d (efficient dynamics)BMW diesel engine is a master 'stroke' against Audi's Diesel engine. It is only one of the better engines but to say that the Audi engine is the best on the 'diesel' engine market is not true. For test results search on www.carsinaction.co.za. This may sound a bit biased but it is a fact that the same engine in the 330D powered the car around the Kyalami race track just a second slower than the 335I but it's hot lap time was quicker than the RS4 time (test results from February 2009 edition of Cars Today magazine). The Audi engine is good but not as refined as the BMW diesel engine thus it's far from being the best on the current market.

As much as i hate to say it, BMW does have a better diesel engine than audi (3.0). But i'd still rather get a A4 diesel instead.

well I hate to disappoint you both ... but Audi is the Leader in Diesel technology.... in the WORLD. BMW had started to claim that this past year and quickly took down all there advertisement on being the best and cleanest due to Facts holding AUDI as the leader in this technology. I guess BMW didn't want a lawsuit from there neighbors :). Anyways guys its always god to read up! stay informed and let Audi dominated another year at LeMans .. speaking of which .... It would be nice to see BMW join DTM and Le Mans ... that would be great ! more competition
