The new Hyundai Equus has been unveiled in advance of its Geneva release. Hyundai showed off the Equus to several dozen journalists, releasing a few photos to boot.

Hyundai's luxury sedan hit the market in the late 1990s as a Mitsubishi-designed executive vehicle, that was also sold in Korea as a limo. It was not a worldwide vehicle, having been sold mainly in Korea, parts of the Middle East, and China, with a few exported to Europe. The vehicle received a facelift in 2003.

The new generation Equus has two engine choices, including a 3.8-liter V6 and a 366 horsepower 4.6-liter V8. At the event, they compared the power figures with the Lexus LS460L and the Mercedes-Benz S350L. Brimming with confidence, they even let journalists test drive all three cars at their own event, just to demonstrate the Equus' abilities to compete with more established luxury sedans. Some of the available equipment will include LED-lined headlights, oversized fog lights, dual exhaust, lane assist, a new computer system that analyzes data from the entire chassis, and pre-crash seatbelts.

The new Hyundai Equus will now have a further reach, likely getting a U.S. launch as the Genesis Prestige. It is expected to receive the attention of the worldwide media at the Geneva Motor Show. At the same time, it goes on sale in Korean dealerships as of 3 March.

Appears to be a very big car on tiny wheels.

It got so many LED lights that it will win the "Most LED lights on a car" award

Seems Hyundai is very brave recently to take on a S-Class or LS. This is a very serious competition, but I wish them luck! Btw. the car looks quite nice, preety close to Genesis, but still stylish.

The depreciation on this is going to be comical.

On the sbject of Hyundai fitting "pre-crash seatbelts" who would want post-crash seatbelts exactly?

Pre-crash seatbelts are belts that tighten around occupants just before a severe impact.

I even thought about these cars. The new Equus looks good, but maybe the reason is the known design. I thought, Hyundai build more unique cars today. To bad that they didn't have the braveness for completely new aspects. The Design is the one thing. I can imagine, the Equus can compete with other saloons of this class. I wish to can test one.

This looks like a RWD Azera with a Genesis grille. It even has a bit of Elantra in the C-pillar. Sorry, this doesn't make me feel it's the exclusive design that Hyundai is promoting it to be.

In Singapore, Hyundai Sonatas and Azeras are used as cabs... Sorry but the Hyundai brand association here is not very good. The handling and equipment and all that MAY be on par with Lexus or Mercedes, but its never gonna work with that badge. Plus it doesnt look good anyway. If BMW came up with a design like that (big BMW fan here) I still wouldn't like it.
