Mercedes always made great looking coupes, and this one is no diffrent. I love it.

hmmmm, i dont like it, simple as that it is ugly. The front doesnt work with those extra 2 little head lights otherwise it would of been fine and the rear looks very chinese. The interior is too angular and boxy with too many buttons when it has mercedes' computer system (i dont remember the name). I dont understand why they cut the rear window and just didnt leave it as one window it would of looked better. It is abit more masculine than the current CLK but design wise worse and the CLK wasnt very nice either... Sorry MB your design just isnt wokring with me, stop trying to do a Chris Bangle becuase his designs were good and i liked them.

I just can't believe Mercedes interior are getting worse and worse. The W204 C-class was barely acceptible (with coarse plastic, bad fitment, and the lines that doesn't flow at all). Now the E-coupe interior looks like bunch of different lines collapse together. Wish they could do better than that. Some how, the exterior does not feel as precious and prestige anymore. What's the heck with the supersized tail light and worm shaped led lights?

agreed. the interiors are becoming too boxy. they could have atleast adopted the s/cl minimal cues. i own an 07 w203 c-class and i feel so much better in it compared to my friends brand new w204 c180. it just doesnt feel classic or special anymore. the c63 is sick though. and i shall wait till i see an e on the road.

Not bad, but in this type of car I prefer the soft, curvaceous lines of the BMW 3 Series Coupe to this hard-edged American style design...

I just think that b-and-a-half pillar looks odd... like... it's just not kosher.
February 17, 2009 8:03 am
Yes it is not Koscher just because there no such pillars. Koscher might be only an existing thing.

There is still a B-pillar, it just stops at the window line. The door latch is attached to it.
I think ai88 was referring to the extra quarter window (sixteenth window?), which is kinda awkward but allows the quarter window to fully retract (it would be too large without this segment removed).

the extra little window in the back window spoils the flow and makes the car look fussy... otherwise it looks like a baby CL

I really like the back of the car. The rest is just ugly, even worse than BMW 3 Series Coupe.

I am in love with this new design. I think this is one of the most striking cars to come out in a long time. I actually "get" all the various design aspects, inside and out. This seems like a great reinterpretation of a classic Benz Coupe, like the 300CD from the early 80's. Classic, timeless, sexy and with character.

I also like the design, expecialy in the white color, this rear(lights) lools elegant, nice, sexy as it should look like(unfotunately bad on the e-class) The front could look better but it's still a nice car...

I find that the rear side panel looks like Bentley. The interior is not sporty. And I bet they won't even have a manual transmission for North America. A grandpa's coupe.
February 17, 2009 6:02 pm
You let me know when you can find buyer for this car who actually wants a manual transmission. It will never happen.

I love everything about this car, from the name that makes sense, to the 1990's interior. I hope they offer it with a grill like on the E class sedan, and even if not, you can alweighs aftermarket.
The only thing wrong with this car is that a black/dark brown one is not sitting in my garage.

Anyone notice that the rear-seat headrests do not retract? Considering how rarely anyone sits back there, and considering MB has long led the industry in having remote-retractable rear headrests, it seems like an annoying cost-cutting measure at the expense of rear visibility to have those giant fixed high-back seats.
Not a fan of the square lights (front and rear) with the curvy arched greenhouse and silly Ponton fender swoosh, nor of the extraneous quarter window in the quarter window (does that make it a sixteenth window?), but it certainly got back to being a masculine car... Hooray for that at least.

Thats creepy, I was JUST about to say one of the things I would change would be retractable headrests. To me thats just a Mercedes trait. I also wish they could bring back the mono wiper like on my Merc.
February 18, 2009 12:56 am
as a current CLK owner i have to say WHY: no rear folding headrests (despite cool porsche 911 style rear seats), no rear armrest (?????????) weird ugly dash and interior door trims and worlds ugliest taillights. but still very buyable if it is priced and spec'd right. Also anybody notice the rear wheel arches are exactly the same as a bentley continental GT (no bad thing!). As for the C pillar extra window well thats just rediculous... couldnt they engineer something better
February 18, 2009 2:21 am
myeah.. I'd take an A/S5 over it at aaaaany time (in terms of design).
