US team eyes Danica Patrick for F1 seat
Danica Patrick

Ken Anderson, one of the principals behind the prospective F1 team USF1, has confirmed interest in signing Danica Patrick.

Patrick, the 26-year-old female star of America's open wheeler series Indycar, is "great", Anderson said in an interview with the Associated Press.

"She gets a lot of press," he added. "(Indianapolis Motor Speedway president) Tony George would probably be pretty mad with me if I took her out of the IRL but we'll see.

"I don't know if it's something she wants to do. We'd certainly love to test her and go from there."

The American news agency also revealed more details about USF1's 2010 plans, to be officially launched next week.

The annual budget, for example, will be around 50m euros, there will be at least 100 staff, and American names Scott Speed, Conor Daly and Josef Newgarden were mentioned as other candidates for a seat.

Anderson also confirmed reports that USF1 is considering setting up a European base at the Spanish headquarters of the Le Mans team Epilson Euskadi.

I had "some" hope for this team. Now its a sure fail, no offense but she can't drive, indy car is different than F1, and she isn't even at the top in that category. Alonso and Kimi are going to eat her for breakfast. Sure she looks better in a swimsuit than the other drivers of F1, but this isn't a fashion show.

Total waste of time. This is just a publicity stunt to generate interest in F1 in the US. F1 burns money without any return.

To be honest, I think this is a GREAT idea! You guys are sounding pretty ignorant. This woman has proven that she can drive, and who says she wouldn't be able to have the same success in F1 as she's had in Indy. Also, she (along with everyone else including USF1) is probably not expecting to win the championship first time out. And of course this is publicity. At it's greatest! but how is that a bad thing? if she can drive, and look good whilst doing it, what's wrong with that? Even more variety in F1 would be great. And this is just the thing that a aspiring team need could use to set it apart on the grid, which is something difficult to do now'a days. USF1 has my support.

Her fame outdoes her skill, she has proven nothing. Has she ever won a championship? No, she was 6th in 2008, with slightly over half the points of the leader. In the entire 2008 season she lead a total of 4 laps...Out of thousands. And won only 1 race. All she has proven is she looks good in a swimsuit and will demean women for Godaddy. I stand by my original statement.

agree with the Radmeister. In addition, she would be in a whole new game in F1, and F1 cars are not exactly the same as the Indy cars... The USF1 team should find a driver with an F1 experience if they want to earn some points in the championship.

Wake up people! Racing with a female driver, and a female driver that poses in swimsuits and looks great, brings you more reputation than the, lets say, 40 points you get in the whole season. Assuming USF1 wont be challenging for the championship title for few more years, Danica will be the perfect choice. Formula 1 never was "only racing". It's a show-off too. Go watch karting championship or whatever, if you dont want to see things other than racing.

Well , if she does or doesnt it might be good. And as the old saying goes put your money where your mouth is.

To everybody but joshg_5; I completely agree with you - F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports (although WRC could make a similar claim). Not a place for publicity stunts ("look we've got a female driver! Now strip down to a bikini, Danica, you've got a photo shoot"). And as for joshg_5, if she "had the same success in F1 as in Indy", we'd wait 4 years for her to win a freakin' race and then nothing for at leat a year after that. Not a great investment with the line up of TALENTED drivers waiting to get into F1.

Oh, and I just saw eas722 comment. Actually, I think people who want to watch premier racing want to watch F1, not a feeder series like carting. As for F1 being a showcase, I agree - of both technology and talent. Someone who doesnt win races for years on end doesn't last in F1. Fact.

Wow guys, you're all a little bit mad that this seems to be in peoples minds. Kind of ironic actually, considering people never said a black man would be president. But who won the race again...? (not that I voted for him). I could find dozens of drivers that have raced in F1 for multiple seasons and have never won a race. The sport (unfortunately) is in the business of making money. If USF1 thinks that's what Danica will do better than anyone else at making dough, then they'll do sign her without hesitation. This is the exact controversy that would cause the situation to thrive. "Bad publicity is better than no publicity", right. Grow up you guys, better her than another Montoya IMO... Radmeister: I've had multiple convo's on this forum with you now, and you're turning out to be a prick. Also, the pic's are great, but if I wanted to look at hot girls, there's women I'd rather look at than her. It's what she's capable of that is so attractive. Like most famous people. They're not necessarily "attractive" b/c of their looks, but b/c of what they've accomplished. I'm an avid F1 fan, and have literally traveled half way around the world to experience races multiple times. If you were too, you'd be thrilled at this prospect as much as I am.
