When you look at the sketches, it looks awesome, then you see the real thing... disappointing.

I think it looks really handsome and will look better in darker colours. It will be interesting to see if it's a success though.

I really think they're onto something here, it certainly appeals more than a 7 series. The only thing I'm worried is that BMW are going back to their models all looking the same, first the new-7, then the X1 and now this.

You think? Name me one car in the executive sector without a saloon-type notchback boot that has done well? For a list of those that tried and failed, how about Signum, Vel Satis, Avantime, R-class...
This car is not to my taste at all. And that "PAS" rubbish... It looks like the self obessed marketing department has taken over BMW. The engineers must be cringing.

I really am longing to see a really good looking executive hatchback, not like the horrid modern hatchback rears, but like the Rover 800 series and the Renault 25. And, for that matter the Rover 'SD1' and Citroen CX.

yeah, that?s right - the backlights from x1 concept and the front grille are looking like the same as the 7 series.
Well, Bangle leaves von Hooydonk stays - the guy wouldn?t make design experiences anymore...
I wat eagerly of the new 5series

Man! The direct-view front is strikingly handsome - as is the direct-view rear. I, too, eagerly await the application of this design language on the sedan. I am curious as to why BMW wouldn't release the new sedan and touring first, then this adaptation. I am beginning to get very excited about the new 5.

I don't really have any idea with what cars this is supposed to compete with. If this is a CLS competition, then it's a FAIL. The rear is just to bulky, it's bulky on the X6 and putting it on a smaller car is even worse. If this is supposed to be a family car like the R class, then what is the point of it having 4 seats? I just hope this is not how the upcoming actual 5 series front-end will look like.
OH By the way: the profile reminds me of the FSO Polonez.
February 13, 2009 12:33 pm
Yeah, except Polonez was way better proportioned :) This looks a bit Chinese.
February 13, 2009 5:56 pm
yeah, its like a polonez for sure. PAS? everyone else calls it a hatchback... and have had them for 40 years

Very interesting. They tried like mad to reduce the visual height of the sides with additional contouring, but it will be difficult to hide in normal daylight. Once again a manufacturer has reduced the interior capacity with massive consoles. I thought electronics were diminishing in size... As for potential customers, I wonder how many rich executives who wine and dine rich partners or clients remain in this current global economy. Banks, realtors, constructors, industrialists, and dot-commers may have wanted one - but they are currently concerned with keeping their McMansion while keeping Juilia and Josh in university

why BMW ... are you out to give the Porsche Panamera some very serious competition . . . in the horrorific-looking car contest ?
February 13, 2009 12:59 pm
i hope it will look THE SAME as on the first picture, so HOT!!!
February 13, 2009 1:17 pm
Oh wow this is nasty,
It looks like a seven series went slumming with a Mondeo and their love child was born with some serious defects. As much as I expect ugly designs from a Bangle led effort, I am still shocked at the shear hideousness. The front end says catfish and the rear end is pretty much indescribable with its tail light and deck lid treatment taking Bangle Butt to a new level of awkwardness.
February 13, 2009 5:55 pm
I like it better after seeing it in video. Id buy the over the R class any day.
February 13, 2009 7:24 pm
R Class is a 6 or 7 seater, more into a minivan category. This is a car based X6, looks good but not functional, may be only for a niche audience, Yet Again.

I think the front is cool, I really like the interior and the dual opening boot is a great idea despite Skoda getting there first with the new Superb.
The rest of this is ghastly - The profile is so rear heavy, awkward and devoid of any any flowing progression. Yuck...
February 13, 2009 7:54 pm
there is nothing that this car can do better then a 5 series touring and the touring looks much better as well, a useless and ugly car...
February 13, 2009 8:34 pm
fugly and useless, a shrivelled X6.
my advice: buy a 5-series or an X5 instead, both are looking much better and offer more value for ur money.

The picture of the rear three quarters and the little boot open, with that coagulated blood-coloured interior peeking through... Do you recognize what it looks like? Before now, if someone told me BMWs liked a bit of rough and took large loads up the rear, I wouldn't have had any idea what they were talking about. But now I do.
