At a special event in Munich, BMW have unveiled the highly anticipated 5-Series GT, aka PAS. The model is set to have its official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next month and follows in the vein of previous concept vehicles from the Bavarian automaker with a production ready look.

Styling is drawn very strongly from the new 2010 BMW 7-series with its large front grille, headlights and L-shaped tail lights. The coupe-like profile clearly follows in the footsteps of the X6.

An extended wheelbase similar to the 7-Series Long Wheel Base results in an extremely spacious cabin giving rear occupants extra legroom for a more comfortable experience.

Full details along with a mountain of official photos are expected later today, until then enjoy the photos.

[UPDATE] 26 Official low-res images added to mini photo album.

Just putting this out there, but I reckon that looks great. Would look much better with the flared front spoiler off the M5/5 Series Sport, though. And the tailgate thing is just a gimmick, and not a particularly smart one in my opinion - they're basically admitting the main lid is too awkward and heavy. Would be useful in a tight car park, though.

This project had a lot of potential, but I think BMW missed the mark. The front end looks a lot like a pigs nose, and bloated from many angles. IMHO, Audi is the closest in this segment to having an amazing car with the A7 Concept. Can't wait for the new Mercedes CLS to break cover, too. At best, this car is bloated and slightly awkward.

It seems that you haven't understand the idea behind the 5 Series GT Concept if you compare it with this wannabe-a-coupé-sedans like Mercedes CLS or Audi A7. The 5 Series GT is exactly positioned against the ugly Mercedes R-Class. It's highly spacious and versatile, but (unlike the R-Class) also stylish and sporty as we expect what a BMW should be.

What I feel that you fail to realize is that the Audi A7 sportback and 5 Series GT are perfectly positioned against one another. They're both low slung, 5 door luxury hatchbacks. Note, they don't look like minivans a la the R-Class. They're roughly the same size, and have the same goal in mind. GT driving for the family. The X6 and R-Class are more closely positioned to be competitors (which is what BMW intended). Now please spare us your annoying and useless dribble. kthxbye.

The front is too much like the 7 Series and why must they have those ugly nostrils of a pig! Why can they make it more like the Z4! Absolutely dissapointing front end

Hold up, didnt Porsche get flamed for the Panamera for a similar design philosophy? But i suppose with this car seemingly looking bigger, it can pull of the wierd tailgate thing. I do love the more vertical side pporfile of the nose though. There's something about it...

There was only one photo that looked like the panamera. The tailgate would be heavy and it doesn't really give the boot area any more space

The rear end is bloody ugly! It is worse than the X3, what is wrong with them??? Any normal person would look at the rear and say it's ugly! Interior is very nice though.

I like all of it, i think it looks great even though it is just a hatch back. It is all pretty BMW which i like. Keep up the good work. I like this more than the X6 but i still think that the X6 is pretty cool aswell.

I like this, but can't help thinking about its position in the BMW range against the X6. This looks fairly similar, is smaller (so likely more efficient), and cheaper too. Maybe this is what the X6 should have been!

I think i'll be trading in my X6 when this is released!

not as ugly as the X6 but still kind of ugly and most important: useless

I despise anything BMW... every single new design is absolutely awful, ugly, horrible

It just keeps getting worse... jeez... can't wait for the BMW "5-Series GT PAS-M"... because we all need another 500hp crossover

how ugly can a bmw get? i think their designers live in a world of their own..for some years now. just look at bmw's cars. and now they are not only ugly, but useless too. come on, a gt sedan, wanna be R-class mercedes, mixed with a bit of cls and a7... what? it's like in that episode in southpark with man-bear-pig; half man, half bear, half pig. no wait, it's half bear, half man, half pig. no, i think it's half pig, half man, half bear. or maybe it's just stupid. for sure that's not a car.

of course bmw doesnt make ugly shapes,It looks perfect...The most suitable engine is the V8 4liter from M3 & maybe The huge V10

I'm undecided on this. As this is classed as a 5-Series I guess this is the very same nose the next saloon and estate will get?
