Here's proof of how serious Artega is with its development of the Artega GT. The car was caught on camera doing some winter testing at temperatures of -20C (-4F). Artega has already confirmed that it will be built and several times it has appeared as a concept and prototype at motor shows like Geneva in 2007 and 2008.

Most of the Artega GT's main parts will be sourced from the VW Group parts bin. It will be made of lightweight construction materials like an aluminum space frame and carbon-fiber reinforced bodywork to get the best power-to-weight ratio. Artega says it will weigh about 1,100kg (2425 lbs) as a result. Safety is not neglected as the GT gets ABS, airbags and bi-xenon headlights.

Power comes from a 3.6-litre V6 engine rated at 300hp (221kW) and 350Nm of torque. Through a 6-speed direct-shift gearbox the Artega GT will be able to blast from 0 - 100km/h in under five seconds, topping off at 270km/h (168mph).

The Henri Fisker designed GT will sell in a very limited number of 500 units but this may be extended if demand exceeds expectations.

I can not begin to where to point out the problems with this car. way too much of a gap between the wheel well and tire and the bodu style is just enough to lose your lunch. And I think Porsche would like their headlights back.

The wheel/tire package in the larger picture appears to be a winter set up. The tread pattern on the tires is pretty aggressive. They're probably doing cold weather testing, and they had to go with a smaller wheel so they could mount snow tires. Look at the pictures with the car with darker wheels. Those wheels appear to be much larger, and fill in the gap you're so concerned about.

I have seen this in the skin and it is beautiful. Tiny too. A serious Cayman rival.

In germany you can already buy that thing. So I do not really see the news in this story.

Carparazzi, thanks for your comment but I think you're missing the point. Not every story we publish has to be a blaring headline. As our writer Thami mentioned in the story, the car has already done its rounds at car shows since 2007, but we still love cars. And for those fans outside of Germany who might not see an Artega GT everyday on the street, it's still a thrill.
