Ford is said to have the Volkswagen Scirocco and the Renault's Mégane Coupe in its sights. A report carried by AutoExpress says the Ford Focus coupe will be ready for delivery by the end of 2010. Featured are renderings of what the car could look like if it made it into production. The style is very much in line with current Ford design philosophy as personified by the new Fiesta.

Basically it's a fastback coupe with a lower grille, LED headlights, chunky wheel arches, sloping tail end, a roof spoiler and big alloy wheels. The wheel base would be adequate to accommodate even taller people, giving it an air of practicality not immediately associated with coupes.

The interior would feature an iDrive-like system to reduce dashboard clutter and to move the Focus coupe into the realm of stylish, upmarket sports cars. The car would offer a stiffer suspension than its traditional hatch sibling.

A whole range of engines would accompany the Focus coupe starting with a turbo EcoBoost 1.0-litre with either 89bhp (66kW) or 108bhp (81kW). A 1.6-litre turbo will make 148bhp (110kW) or 178bhp (133kW). A 2.0-litre turbo producing 168bhp (125kW) or 197bhp (147kW) is also on the cards.

Two diesel motors would join the lineup as well with a 1.6 TDCI of 89bhp (66kW), 108bhp (81kW) or 128bhp (95kW). These engines will be mated to a manual gearbox with an optional PowerShift twin-clutch transmission made available.

bit late in the product cycle, isn't it? what i think they should do is revive the Capri name and make a mid-sized rear drive coupe. it'd be expensive but having some sort of halo model might do Ford some good. they could always sell it in the States as well as a cheaper alternative to the Mustang with better fuel economy. job done!

Something like the Mégane Coupe... http://www.worldcarfans.com/9081002.008/production-renault-megane-coupe-breaks-cover

Its basically a 3-door hatchack, but with a lower sleeker roofline compared to the 5-door hatchback.

But of course this fastback Focus coupe is still just rumor...

Great idea! But yeah, RWD would take it to a whole 'nother level, and would be able to compete with the likes of the hyundai genesis coupe.

But what are they thinking with "chunky wheel arches"...?

I just don't get that logic...

About the styling and the chunky wheel arches...

This is just an artist's impression, I think its still too early to tell what the next Focus is really going to look like.

i think it really looks like a blown up version of the fiesta except for the headlights and tail lights. a bit disappointed though, i was expecting something more "kinetic" and sexy like the mondeo. i hope that the real model doesn't look like this.

The artist obviously based this chop on the new Fiesta. About the Kinetic Design's next step... isn't the new Taurus supposed to give a hint of Ford's new "post-Kinetic" styling (the next evolution of the Kinetic Design)?

It could be the next generation of Focus, following the Fiesta style.

Dunno man, I reckon these cars are looking TOO modern. Sort of like modern architecture and interior design. Lose a lot of soul and all of these angular shapes for headlights etc will become cliche quickly.
