 Burned Supercars - New fad?
Lamborghini Gallardo burned

Anger over the economy to blame?

There's no hiding the fact that the global economic downturn has taken a toll on many people but it appears some members of society are taking their anger out on supercars.

First there is the case of this Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder which was torched in Sint-Truiden, Belgium. The roadster along with at least twenty other vehicles was burned by two men outside a local bar on a busy Saturday night. Luckily the criminals were captured after they left their footprints on parts that were kicked off the car prior to being torched.

A loyal WCF reader sent in this picture of a burnt Audi R8 and says that it is just one of several in Dubai that has been set ablaze recently.

In the past, trucks and SUVs were targets of eco-terrorism but the latest attacks on supercars appears to be something altogether different. They're expensive, high profile vehicles with wealthy owners and while there may not be a clear connection between the state of the economy and the recent spike in attacks, owners might not want to park their supercar on the street anytime soon.

All these cars are obviously going to be insured to the max, all that these stupid eco-mentalists are doing is putting a new one on the road.

'Eco-mentalists'? I doubt it, unless they are incredibly stupid and hypocritical. The burning plastics, fuel and fumes going into the atmosphere will do more damage than the car. This is an act of jealousy.

maybe it's both, it isn't the first time environmentalists would have resorted to terrorism.

Burning cars are a big problem in Berlin/Germany since 2008 mainly. Nearly 300 cars have been burned there. Not only Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, BMW´s etc. but also normal cars as you can see here: http://www.brennende-autos.de/ Up to this date, nobody has been caught, nobody knows who´s burning them.

People have no respect for others' property. They don't consider that one has earned their possessions, they only see that someone has more than they do. Then there are the people who have everything handed to them from a young age and therefore don't respect others' possessions because they've never had to earn their way through life. Can you tell I'm bitter?

Whats wrong with the world today? if someone works hard enough and makes enough money to buy them selves a super-car then so be it. it makes me sick how people think they can take or destroy someones property, why don't they go and work for it. i think it would be out of jealousy, low brained celled morons that don't deserve to be a human.

I had someone yell at me for destroying the environment when I showed up in an A6 2.7T. They told me that the planet was dying because of "people like me". When I asked them what vehicle they drove they pointed to a Ford Excursion but claimed it was their father's. I could barely stand because I was laughing so hard.

Some dude scratched my car and wrote a note saying '"for the environment" in a paper attached to the windscreen wiper. I guess he didn't have the balls to burn it.

Huh? looks like my comment got deleted, but i stand by it. If you're this unintelligently self-righteous, and would do this great machines, you don't deserve to live. I stand by my deleted comment.

I think the facts are a bit twisted here. I may be wrong but from the look of things the two cars just burned on their own and it seems the source of the fire is the engine. Didn't we see this sort of car on the track in Germany when they were testing the R8 V10? why is it that the way this car is burnt looks the same as the R8 that burnt on the track and why is it that only the Lambo and R8 got burnt and not the Porsche, Ferrari or Aston. I suspect that this 'burning' issue has everything to do with an engine design flaw in the two cars and not the Enviro 'keepers'.
