Similar, but not the same. Their differences are such that I would not buy a Prius but I would certainly buy an Insight.
While it does look similar, there can be no doubt that it takes its styling from Honda; CRX, FCX, Civic & Odyssey.
I would like to see a direct comparison between the Insight, Prius and Civic Hybrid which includes the initial sale price against running costs.
On a side note, I'd rather not always have to convert mpg to L/100km myself. If the authors would be kind enough to include this conversion in their articles I would appreciate it.

By the way, have photos of the rear interior been released? I've not found any and would be very interested in seeing the Insight's full interior.

Why do hybrids always have such crappy plastic inside? It would cost a couple of grand more, but still cheaper then a prius, and much more better looking inside.

Comparing the Insight with the Prius is not entirely correct as the Insight fits in a lower segment (sits on a Fit chassis). Space-wise, the Prius should be compared with the more expensive Civic Hybrid.
That might be why Gansan didn't see any rear interior pictures yet. I guess Honda is trying hard to keep people focussed on the price-difference only.

Interesting, I didn't know it was based on the Fit. I wonder what the interior volume differences are between the three with the Fit and Prius being hybrids.
Both the Prius and Civic are slow. Although less practical, the Smart is probably more fun to drive.
I fear fun, affordable eco-mileage cars will be years away. In the meantime, I'd be tempted to get a used fun car and hope that fuel prices don't triple or quadruple.

If more Fit sized, I would expect it to get better mileage than the larger Prius, which elsewhere on this site is proported to get nearly 60 mpg in real world driving.
