Romanian automaker Dacia has soldiered along quietly under the Nissan-Renault umbrella, offering low-cost vehicles in a slowly expanding lineup. We've got confirmed reports that Dacia will be presenting a concept car at Geneva (its second concept since joining the Nissan-Renault family), and some teaser photos to go with it, though of course there are no details as yet. The brand is expected to reveal a crossover or SUV-type vehicle this year, but indicators point to the concept being based on the Sandero hatchback.

The scanned photos that have leaked hint at a sporty coupe with aggressive styling, LED headlamps and distinctive, boomerang-shaped taillights. Brembo brake calipers are visible as well. If these photos are real, this concept promises to break new ground for Dacia. Stay tuned as we hunt for more information.

Ok, so we have a Daihatsu dimensions coupe made in a 3rd world country by Renault, what should be so exciting about that?

Well it's exciting for about 22 million people in romania and about another 191 million in brazil, and then however many more people there are in 3rd world countries where dacia is sold. Just like Romania Dacia is slowly evolving from the 3rd world, these things take time. It's not world changing, but whats exciting is that even with the current economic crisis the ball is still rolling.

Just for the record, Romania is a Member State of the European Union. It's true, the newest and the poorest, alongside Bulgaria. Still, I would not call it a 3rd world country...

I guess ur right, it's made in Europe by Renault, not by Tata or some crazy named chinese manufacturer.

I wonder what Motor_Yakuza would have said about the pic's if Dacia's name had not been mentioned, or if - worse - instead of Dacia, there had been a much "heavier" name involved. This is what you get when you mix ignorance with bad manners.

Exciting thing is that its going to cost about 10k Euros, and maybe, just maybe, even I could afford a new sports car. I love this idea, Dacia is booming lately with concepts

Such narrow mindedness. What is wrong with a Dacia Coupe? It`s amazing seeing comments fly that Chris Bangle this that ugly etc....but its a BMW....now this is automatically crap cause it wears the Dacia name...that is so ignorant and idiotic.

James and Co might laugh from their high earning salaries, but one day that might come back to them. Hope the crisis brings down a bit of the western "culture" hotheadedness down to earth.

Another 3rd world country where Dacia is selling a lot is France, follow by Germany.

February 5, 2009 10:58 AM
Yeah 3rd world country like Germany(about 43 000 cars in 2008), France(about 50 000), Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Russia( 74300 cars)

257594 cars for 2008, the same cars as Dacia are selling worldwide under different names, check: Nissan Aprio, NP200, Sandero, Logan, Tondar, Mahindra, etc. in fact is platform B from Renault and 4 main engine: 1.2l, 1.4MPI, 1.5DCi, 1.6 16V. in different configurations.

It may be "just" Dacia, but at least they try to be creative, i mean, have U ever seen taillights like this? Companies like this are lately the only ones to create interesting and bold designs.

The strongest point of Dacia, being a low-cost brand, is the price. And, of course, what you pay is what you get. Concepts are nice, but Renault will not accept to let Dacia make better and more attractive cars than its own cars. Dacia will always be the poor relative of the Renault-Nissan family.

yeah but look at fiat 500 for example and Toyoya IQ although still to expensive for what they are in my opinion low cost DOESEN'T mean bad design thats a grave misunderstanding.

one of my cars is a logan SW. it´s nice to drive an honest car, and buy only a practical tool, not passion, status or coolness. the charm is in the simple things of life, and that includes cars also.... i hope dacia does as best as possible, but please don´t lose the simplicity and honesty that makes it the only car maker selling only cars.

Cool concept! Hopefully it delivers. Dacia has been teasing people with using Renault Twingo's RS engine for a year now but no news :(
