New American F1 Team set to Join the Grid in 2010

A new formula one team is under wraps in America and set to be launched officially later this month, it is reported on Wednesday.

The team, whose logo can be previewed at usf1.com, is fronted by F1 stalwart and broadcaster Peter Windsor, and American Ken Anderson, of Indycar and NASCAR fame but also former Ligier technical director.

Briton Windsor, 56, has worked for Williams and Ferrari, but is best known today as a television pundit and writer.

The German website motorsport-total.com said USF1 intends to make its grand prix debut in 2010, and already has the blessing of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

The team will have the slogan 'made in america' and be headquartered in the heart of NASCAR-country in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Reportedly, an agreement to use the new Windshear wind tunnel in North Carolina is already in place, while USF1 intends to be a showcase for American technology and US-born drivers.

It'll be interesting to see what "made in America" engine they'll be using considering the state of the big 3...

Good point. They missed the chance to get the Mercedes engine rebadged as a Chrysler...

they would stay with their NASCAR and indycar. the european F1 teams and european drivers are too good to be beaten by "made in America".

I don't think they can survive for more than a couple of seasons if they join. It's pointless for them to enter right now considering their economic problems.

I think they might survive for one or two seasons and then join the line in asking the US government for a bailout!!!

I thought American cars could only go in straight lines and ovals? Plus isn't an F1 engine displacement way too tiny for American standards? And the revline way too high than their 5,500rpm pushrod limits? Haha!

They will try at least; if they fail maybe they will learn something in the process.

F1 is all about $, if they have a good budget the facilities for manufacturing exist in the US, they can hire the right people from europe as engineers. It wouldnt be very hard, they could build an amazing car. For drivers they may be screwed, they may change that US-Born clause and change it to citizen, then just give Senna's nephew a citizenship and there you go a winning team. It's possible if they have the $$ to go through with it.

This is really good news. It supplies some optimism that has been lacking in the motor sport world for months, even years. I'm glad there's going to be another team on the grid. Especially considering there's only 9 as of now... If the team is able to pick up a good driver, which do exist in the US, and produce a good engine, they have a working chance in F1 I think, or hope. Nothing wrong can come of this, only good. If they've got the budget, then why not.

hahaha, they are gonna show up with an orange car with a big red confederate flag on the side... the drivers will all be from nascar and therefor unable to turn right...in order to turn right, they will make a complete stop and turn 270 degrees to the left...ahahha all other f1 cars will have 19000rpm limit...they will have about...6000..LOL

aside from that, i'm actually pretty excited to see americans face off with europe : )

I hope the "boys" remember that unlike Nascar bumping cars in the open wheel F1 cars results in the cars turning into airbourne projectiles...sorry I had to make a sarcastic comment of my own. But seriously as an American I think it is great that there are groups of people willing to venture into this dominantly European-World Wide phenomena. Look what Greg LeMond and Lance Armstrong did in one of the ultimate European sporting events...the Tour de France. Nothing is impossible. If they can raise the funds and get the right people to to their jobs then why not? Let's not discount them...before they even warm up their tires.

I suppose they had to wait for "auto" gearboxes to be introduced. Would have loved to see them with a stick shift. Weel, for the first time a "Limited" badge on an American car would make sense.
