First Hyundai Equus Interior Sketch Surfaces

First Hyundai Equus Interior Sketch Surfaces
Hyundai Equus Interior

The first interior sketches of the 2010 Hyundai Equus has surfaced. This rendering comes just a couple of weeks after the vehicle was captured in grainy spy photos.

Hyundai's latest foray into luxe performance vehicles will come with a direct-injection 4.6-liter V8 engine. A 400 horsepower 5.0-liter V8 will also be available, as both engines come from the new Hyundai Theta engine line-up. An eight-speed automatic is expected.

While on the outside the car may try to compete more with BMW and Mercedes, interior designers are trying to draw the attention of the Japanese automakers' consumers. Muted, soft colors are expected in more stylish gray and brown tones. Passengers can marvel at the wood panels lining the dash and doors while they sit comfortably in the all-leather seats. A multifunction console display includes a navigation system, with many controls connected to the steering wheel. Below the automatic shift lever with Shiftronic-manual controls, you can see their "user-friendly multimedia system." This works with a knob and several buttons similar to the iDrive system.

The new 2010 Hyundai Equus is expected to be launched in South Korea on 3 March. Since this is the same date as the beginning of the Geneva Motor Show, we are hopeful the company will also show off their new luxury sedan in Europe. A U.S. launch could come by 2012.

Please, nobody give this one an award. We'll never hear the end of it.

Hear the end of what? What are you talking about? You know nothing about the car and already you're choosing to oppose it.

No no, I'm sure it's a great car, just like that Genesis thing. I don't oppose the Equus at all. In fact I have huge confidence in Hyundai's ability to make great cars these days. They deserve awards for the products they build. My beef is with the ad department. It's sort of like an American Idol winner. Sudden fame out of nowhere results in lots of jumping around, yelling and boasting, which is very childish. Very soon Sun magazine will snap them doing cocaine at Pete Doherty's house and we'll never hear of them again. Ok, got carried away there. My point is they're in no position to gloat - it's just one award. The Germans get about 600 awards a year, and will take out one ad in a car magazine or a billboard to let you know. The Superbowl? That's not humble in the least. The last Billy Corgan Genesis Coupe ad was awesome, so were the insurance ones, they should have just stuck with those. And it only seems to be Hyundai USA that has this problem. Hyundai and Kia have recently won all sorts of awards the world over, and they have celebrated discreetly. Not shown the fake boss of Lexus tossing away his dinner in rage. You're doing a great job Hyundai, don't let your USA ad team ruin it all for you.

IDK i think its a good thing... as long as they dont lose credit in their small car market! I commend Hyundai!

I remember the Hyundai Excel from the early 90's. What a horrid car. If I were Hyundai I'd be pimping out that award too - I mean, look how far they've come. I for one, (after driving the V6 Genesis - no V8 available), think that Hyundai can produce a superb car. I still wouldn't buy one, but they can do it.

I saw the new Equus in person at a parking lot of an E-Mart in Pusan. The interior pretty much looks like the sketch. I was a bit disappointed though...it doesn't look that good. They should've stuck to the Genesis Sedan style design...but the Equus is more of a stretched and plumped up Azera. The wheels look really small for the car as well.

As impressed as I am by this car, I agree with you. At the end of the day, someone who is in the market for a powerful V8 combined with luxury is ultimately going to go German. It has been reported (sorry that I can't cite my sources, I read it in a magazine some time ago but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me) a significant number of people who want this package in this price range ultimately opt for a used German over something like this, citing drive-ability as the deciding factor. Not that this is always the case, it happens often enough that if a car like this were to beat out a German counter-part (loosely defined), it needs to offer something that the German doesn't. In this case, it would Hybrid and/or Electric technology, just like uzzie said.

Why are there more and more stupid, made-up names for cars these days? The whole thing doesn't make sense. That whole styling is a complete ripoff of MBenz (S-class), Audi (shoulder lines), Lexus (the lights). Not to mention the triangular exhausts and that row of lights from Audi (seems like daytime running lights) just under the headlamps. That whole boot lid is a Nissan Teana.

You're just carping about the car because it's from Hyundai. Why don't you just tell that the car has even four wheels like the other cars?

excuse me but do u even like cars? u sound like someone that says "a car is a car, it doesnt matter what its like". everyone else here is because they are researching the new cars and giving their opinions, anyway, everyone else is saying that the this equus is crap, so do i but i think it would be a good base model being used for modification as its got a good shape, a lot could be done to it, interior and exterior

How overreacting. Did "I" say something like you said? Funny:P I'm curious about the guy who wrote the comment above me have ever had a close look of all the cars he mentioned.. For instance, I'm driving Lexus and I can't find anything similar lighting design between Equus and all the Lexus models.. I'm living an area where prestigious brand cars are sooooo common even Bentley and Ferrari, so I cannot but have an observation of those cars.. But I don't know why that Equus should be blamed by its desing cues. And there are some designers who I know, and they usually say that designs can be same or different by "several lines". Why don't you just collect several cars' pics and compare them? If that Equus is similar with the other cars in an instant, and if you are stick to it because you don't wanna admit that, just don't say others that you're a car maniac.. So shame. You're just making a "blame" on the car, not a "critique".
