2009 BMW Z4 in BMW parking lot

New BMW Z4 spotted in the parking lot at BMW's Spartanburg, S.C. plant

The new Z4 seen for the first time wandering the streets. Yes, there is the masking tape over the badges, but would anyone ever really mistake this for anything other than a BMW?

This next-generation Z4 has been one of the most anticipated redesigns of late. And we can see here the Z4 is going for a meaner, sleeker, more aggressive styling look.

The top horizontal line of the car seems to have been rounded more, making the car look like it is coiling back and ready to pounce. The headlamps are also stretched back - mean-eyed cat-like. It is unmistakenly a Z4 but it's clearly a bold new design not afraid to speak as to what this car is really all about.

Ironically, these pictures were taken in the parking lot at BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, the location where the final E85 generation Z4 rolled off the production line in September. Production of the new E89 has since been moved to Regensburg, Germany.

The top version of this roadster will be the Z4 sDrive35i with a 3.0 liter, twin-turbocharged 6-banger with 306 hp and 400Nm of torque (295lb-ft). The entry-level Z4 sDrive23i comes with a 2.5 liter in-line 6-cylinder engine with 204hp (152 kW) and 250Nm(184lb-ft) of torque.

I like the front bumper and I think that's where it ends.

This car will sell well in the "look at me" USA. Its too much - like fusion01 said. The surfaces and proportions are ham-fisted.

Am I the only one whom thinks most BMW's just look plain wrong? This car has curves and lines that fight each other left, right and centre. Hell, some even sag. Sort of amusing and astounding at the same time. M3 looks decent enough. 135i with rear too, but otherwise most just look clumsy. See what the next head of design can do with things.

That's exactly what I was thinking. This is the only BMW by Bangle that actually looks good.

Chris Bangle didn't design the 1st and 2nd generation Z4, he just set the original theme followed by recent BMW models. 2010 BMW Z4 Exterior Designer: Juliane Blasi, Interior Designer: Nadya Arnaout, Design manager : Chris Chapman. The previous generation BMW Z4 was designed by Anders Warming.

Why bother to cover-up the badges, when the BMW signature nostril are exposed.
