US Honda Exec says NSX might not be dead

Never say never. Dick Colliver, executive VP for American Honda Motor Co., told the Automotive News, "development is mostly done" on the Acura NSX. He also said the project could be revived at any time.

Colliver was speaking out in an interview about the company's plans to wedge further in to the public mindset as a top luxury vehicle producer. Following a meeting with representatives for Acura's North American dealers, Colliver said, "Being a premium luxury brand is not just about product. It's the way dealers handle customers. You've got to earn your way into the segment. You don't necessarily have to have a $90,000 sedan to get there."

Dealers expressed concern following Honda CEO Takeo Fukui's end-of-the-year speech. In that speech Fukui announced the end to many niche market vehicles. Fukui said Honda's new direction would be to appeal more to the mass market with more environmentally-friendly vehicles showcasing the latest in technology.

The result of this new path was the death of the Honda NSX, sold as an Acura in the States. Several rear-wheel-drive Acura models, meant to better compete with BMW, were also killed off. Development on a new V8 engine was subsequently halted.

"Acura is still dedicated to moving the plan forward," said Valery Voyles. Voyles owns an Acura dealership, and runs the dealer advisory board. Other dealers expressed the same confidence in Honda's management of the luxury brand.

Bringing back the 550hp V10 Acura NSX might make those dealers, and many customers, a little happier.

Dose any of you thinks that this is an early April 1st joke. I wish the car to be still on the schedule, but I really doubt about that.

Guys come on be realistic, do you think Honda would actually cancel this project so far in with so many millions invested already. The car is 95% done, might as well get it 100% and recoup some of your investment. The market is there, as the GT-R sales prove and the M Series prove, Porsche is still doing good, the market has changed, the big selling market is now the 90-125k range, the medium rich have gotten more rich with cheap stocks. A car enthusiast is a car enthusiast regardless of the economy. Vive La Resistance! LoL

chance of revival is really low, considering they removed all other sport-related models already and a halt on the v8. chance of making a v10 car? dont sound like the current honda

well thats good news from homda but its still not better than the GT-R because the V10 engine is very heaviey and it will cost more than the GT-R, c'mon honda be serious

I love the idea of this car. It looks terrific.

LONG LIVE THE V-10!!!!

But, out of respect for the previous NSX, I don't think they should label this one NSX too, because it's not a mid-engine.

Honda should go back to the HSC concept, make the car slightly longer and drop a V10 at the back with a crazy amount of horsepower, legendary handling, great brakes, restyle the HSC to modernize it, produce it and send a red one right to my garage. The front engine one should be finished and produced, but rebadged as the MSX. Anyone think the name on the current one could be an error.

Its been years since the NSX stopped production. Honda, either POOP OR GET OFF THE POT with this car. Its getting so old hearing about a replacement .
