Hulme CanAm Supercar Unveiled at New Zealand Z1GP
Hulme CanAm Supercar

New supercar comes with a 7.0 liter V8 from Chevrolet with 600hp and 600 Nm of torque

The story: There is a guy in New Zealand who one day decided to build a supercar and take on the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. Just like that.

The man is 68 year-old Jock Freemantle and the result has now been unveiled at the New Zealand Z1GP- the 300km/h, 700,000 US dollar-priced Hulme CanAm supercar.

The car is named after former Formula One champion Denny Hulme, a New Zealander, and is powered by a 7.0 liter V8 engine from Chevrolet with 600 hp and 600 Nm of torque. It is orange. It is fast. We're not quite sure what else it is.

Freemantle has invested a lot in this project and so have many of his associates. He has sold his house to finance it and others have contributed their life savings. He says he's praying for success and admits that the most difficult part will be selling the car rather than building it. You don't build a brand name for a supercar that easily.

You can follow the source links below to read the stories for more. Or you can wait and see if this thing has any chance at success in this global market when even the long-established luxury brands are taking a beating in their glossy showrooms.

best of luck to him - it's always nice to see people throwing their hearts, souls and livelihoods into making a new auto brand - it's how all the great names started!

Ok, this thing should be reaaaaally fast! but $700,000 is way too much! Honestly it should be around $200,000 at it's most. Good luck selling it granpa!

700g is very excessive, but this goes to show you that the american car brands, especially gm, get so much crap for being so bad, yet a lot of these small-time exclusive brands use engines from such companies. People just like to blame Americans for all of their problems, and in this time, the auto-industry is taking the blame. The hypocrisy of this sickens me. If people want to blame, they should have the integrity to put the blame in the right places.

Good on him for giving it a go. I hope it is successful. The type of people who buy these sorts of vehicles aren?t really affected by the current economic woes but the price is too steep. I have heard the estimated price quoted by Mr. Freemantle is actually 295,000 euros (US$385,000) which is probably more realistic. As for the debhmoaras comments, I don?t think you can realistically use the example of a small, independent one model car firm buying an engine from GM to say they don?t deserve ?crap for being so bad.? Is it really fair to suggest GM is good because of these types of small deals when they are receiving a share of at least $14 billion from the government bail out? I believe it is quite reasonable to put a fair amount of blame on America for the current economic problems as it all started with the sub prime debacle in America.
