it would be a shame to see Volvo be swallowed up by another company. But just imagine what would happen if Volvo and Renault teamed up to make safe cars?

Renault's increased safety since the late 90s is actually a product of their cooperation with Volvo.
A lot of Volvo know-how regarding safety was exchanged during their first merger-attempt in the early 90s.
Also, Volvo after having sold their car division to Ford, bought Renault's heavy truck division with the money from the sales. Since then Volvo have also bought Nissan Diesel. Thus the Volvo-Nissan-Renault Triangle is just missing Volvo Cars..

What total and utter rubbish. Volvo has already been ravaged by Ford, with the reskinned Focus MKII saloon, estate and hatchbacks (S40/V50/C30/C70). You may think the 343/363/340/360/440/460/480 efforts were not good ones, but those and the PRV 2664/2849cc engine co-developed with Peugeot and Renault really helped Volvo sales and helped grow the brand considerably.

renault doesn't ruin everything.... they turn out very popular and attractive small cars that have economy and safety that puts most other companies to shame... oh and did i mention that they invented the MPV and mini-MPV and won F1 two years in a row.
