Aren't diesels more fuel efficient than Hybrids? So if you really want to improve fuel economny i would use a diesel insted of a petrol engine ;p

I wish it were true. But alas a tdi jetta (green car of the year) can only get 30mpg in the city, whereas a ford escape can pull out 34mpg in the city (and it's an suv). One day... they will finally make a mass produced diesel hybrid... only to have it compete directly with much cheaper electric cars... at least that's what I think will happen.

It costs too much money right now. Wait for the price of modern diesel engines to drop a little, and you'll see the Germans exploit them everywhere. It really is the best of both worlds. I remember Mercedes saying something about a BlueTecHybrid in 2010...

Exactly! It's to expensive to do... that's why the first person doing it is going to be benz... because due to brand name marketing they can sell cars that are expensive to make.

The 3.0 liter TSI is a new development of VW/Audi. Probably the best engine in its category: a very good ratio between performance and consumption for a non-hybrid engine. Touareg is not a city car, so I think the hybrid will not be very popular. The 3.0 liter TDI CR engine will remain the most popular for Touareg, but this engine is also a state of the art technology, although it is not the most adequate engine for a SUV.
