BMW PAS Concept Teased in Official Video

BMW has released a teaser video for the PAS vehicle. This follows a story broken by WCF earlier in the week in which BMW's plans of unveiling the car at an event in February were stated. The video clip is an animated mini-feature describing what a new BMW goes through during its development. Specifically it concentrates on how the concept of the PAS would have become a reality through storytelling.

Particulars are understandably quite sketchy but one or two items are mentioned. The first is that the vehicle is not SUV-high, nor is it sedan low. It really is an in-betweener. Secondly it's a very long coupe-like car that does not feature a third row of seats but rather a backseat that is very much adjustable to suit even the tallest passengers. BMW aims to create the feeling of first-class seating comfort for all occupants.

A third and very interesting feature is the rear storage compartment located within the boot. It can be opened and accessed without affecting the interior environment vehicle. A normal sedan with no folding backseats works on the same principle.

Lastly BMW says the vehicle will behave like a BMW. In other words lots of work and thought have gone into making it handle as well as it can for what it is. Powerful engines will be fitted as well. From the teaser sketch we see a tailpipe on either side of the rear indicating the presence of a 3.0-litre twin-turbo powerplant.

Speculation had been that a Frankfurt 2009 reveal was due for the PAS but now it seems likely that a concept version will appear in Geneva this coming March.

its not a sedan, its a Honda, its for every one except BMW fans, its for first class flight lovers, but people who travel a lot usually rent cars or buy vans. so in the entire video there was not a single word like "good handling, powerful engine, responsive steering, nice engine tone" or any-thing that BMW is known for!!!!!!!! I really want to chock the BMW marketing manger.

It did say it will be a true BMW, which mean that those things are definate without having to mention them. Since when did BMW make a car that's does not handle nicely with good dynamics??? We're no talking about audi here, bud!

Wait a minute, are they saying it's a five door coupe with all the practicality of a normal 4 door coupe? What will they think of next...

It might be a clever design, but please keep the marketing department far away from the development process. It's not really new, it's just a nice combination of existing ideas.

Now that is a really cute way of showing a really stupid concept.

So it's a Superb ripoff styled to look like a Prius?

I can not recall BMW screwing up a car before... Even the old ugly 7 Series was the best selling 7 series in its history, beating the S Class or the first 4 years of sales.

It seems they screwed it up again.

Which niche market is this for? It's a "sedan" with LESS practicallity than a Station Wagon (I quote "A station wagon has too much utility" or something) This car is every thing EXCEPT a damned convertible.

Well...one day when your BMW PAS is too small...will you buy an estate then?

...X6 was far too much...This car? They really should make a breakfast called "Credit Crunch"

I hate to break it to you, but most wagons look like sedans with camper shells. They're frumpy and boring. Why you people can't deal with the fact that people have different wants and needs regarding their cars than they did when the automotive market was only "proper" sedans, hatches, wagons, and coupes is beyond me. Those vehicle types don't work for a lot of people, so why should they be forced to deal with vehicles they don't want to drive because you can't handle change?

You know Snark21883, you have a point, I quite like the idea now that the intention behind it has been explained.

Innovation is what makes the Germans, "The Germans" and change is usually met with resistance; people fear change, people fear uncertainty. I just hope we can all open our minds up a little more, especially when that change might be good for us in the long run.

Okay, it's a good idea... but not a new one. And yes, people do fear change. Especially when change comes in the shape of a BMW Vel Satis.

Well I just hope it's better looking than it seems because it just seems that BMW is losing something...I'm a huge BMW fan and one of my favourite cars is the outgoing BMW 760Li...But the new one just doesn't cut it for me yet...I'm sure it'll grow on me but for now I really hope this new niche is the way to go.

Snark, that's the best way i've heard the idea of a new type of vehicle put. when you look at it like that, this starts to make a lot more sense than just a niche-market.

I like the idea behind it, I just hope it drives like a BMW. Either way, it's 500 times better than the R class... I hope.

I love the X6. It's a fantastic car. It's quite unique, and at the same time, everything BMW. This on the other hand looks grotesque. Hopefully it'll look better when it is officially unveiled.

I cannot wait for the real car, just hope that it will not have oversized nostrils that's like the 7 series. Hope it will have design element from the Z4

Love the forward thinking ideas and multi faceted vehicle use from BMW, but is this not what the R-Class intended to be albiet with a far less attractive shape? Also there are a few contradictions with detail...climbing up into an SUV? adjustable air suspension would fix that and are they having a go at their own 5 series for being too high? Anyway, small issues because I really love it....
