BMW X5 M spy photos in Munich

In case you haven't heard, speculation has been building steadily over time about a BMW X5 M. Despite BMW refusing to comment until last summer, there's no refusing these photos. The X5 M was caught almost completely undisguised on the streets of Munich. Seen nearly finished, BMW has no doubt been working on this vehicle for quite some time.

We believe the BMW X5 M will get the benefits of over 500 hp. If it does get the benefit of M5 technology, this SUV could be fitted with a 507 hp, 5.0-liter V10 engine. Other rumors have the X5 M getting a new, 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that is even more powerful than the V10. Either way, BMW's offering should have no problem competing with either the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG or the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

With the release of the X5 M spy video at the end of 2008, we were pretty sure this SUV would show up at the NAIAS. With the economic climate being what it is, perhaps BMW stalled the release of this, and the BMW X6 M. Now that these photos have surfaced, the temptation is there to say this thing will appear at Geneva in March.

The X3, X5 & X6 with the optional "Sport package" all have wider rear wheels, but they are still AWD.

On the regular-model refresh photos you can only see the updated bumpers. Take a look at the new headlights on the M version though. Much sportier and without the bloopy look of the current model (which can be seen following the M in some shots) All in all it should be an impressive vehicle.

Just like the M3 sedan has the front of the coupe, the X5 has the front of the X6 it seems.

Take pics/video (would love to hear the sound!)

On one of the Pohotos, where the Camoed MX5 is being followed by a normal X5 (not near as wide), the one following seems to have the same headlights...maybe it wont be just for the M?!

zdenda20, the regular facelifted X5 seems to be using the current-shape X5 headlights, not the slimmer X6 headlights. http://img.worldcarfans.com/2009/1/large/bmw-x5-facelift-e70-first-spy-photos_1.jpg

What is the point of this SUV/raised wagon? I see none.

Lol, rather than make an M3 CSL that would have sold, they make this and the X6 M...very lame.

The X5 M will definetly get a V8-twinturbo with more than 507 hp. Some german car magazines have tested this car in a pre-launch test at the Nürburgring some weeks ago. No V10, but the strongest BMW-engine. So communicated by the BMW officials...

The M GmbH is doing a lot in this down turn of economy. I hope that most of the rumors are true, and all their products will be released to the market also. I look forward to more M-badged cars in the future soon.

I saw this car yesterday night on a truck while on the N3 on the Gillolys interchange in South Africa with two black X6's loaded aswell. It had the exact same rims & a german number plate. I would love to get my hands on one of these babies.
