Finalists for the world car of the year awards have been announced ahead of a press conference at the New York Auto Show where the winners will be awarded on April 9.
In the category of 2009 World Car of the Year there are eleven finalists and they include the Audi A4, BMW 7 Series, Citroen C5, Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit / Jazz, Jaguar XF, Mazda Atenza / Mazda6, Nissan GT-R, Toyota iQ, and the Volkswagen Golf VI.
Nominations for the 2009 World Performance Car include the Audi RS 6 Avant, BMW 135i, Corvette ZR1, Lamborghini LP560-4 Gallardo, Mercedes-Benz's C63 AMG and SL 63 AMG, Mitsubishi Evo X / Evo MR, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911 Carrera and the ugly duckling of the group, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
This year's jury includes 59 members of the automotive press who were selected by secret ballot and represent Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. The panel will now go back and vote for their favorite vehicle in both categories taking into account the car's overall merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal, and significance. On March 9, the three vehicles with the most votes will be announced and the final round of voting to select the winners will take place.

Honestly i dont find any of these cars to be an outright winner. They all seem to be on the same level. Who picks the cars?? becuase i think they should get some new people.
I thought the Opel/Insgnia Would be up there, or was that for 2008?
