isnt this going to take sales away from the 5 series estate, or is bmw planning to just rebadge the estate as the PAS

Yes, what sales? History has shown no one wants to big hatchbacks any more: Renauly Vel Satis, Opel Signum... Not even one with a posh badge, as sits on the R-Class.
This does seem an extraordinarily strange move.

And what the Hell is a "Progressive Activity"? BMW has lost the plot.

from the spy shots i think it looks like a normal hatch and BMW is just trying to make it sounds mysterious and sexy. You know like the mazda 6, ford mondeo, opel insignia. They all come in Estate, Sedan and hatch.

i can confirm - the PAS event will take place in the beginning of february. (i invited there). BMW will show the production ready model for journalists in Munich. but it seems like 1st press release and fotos will appear on web site little bit earlier. or in the day of event. but for shure - not later.

Good job from BMW side. Is it a sort of "Laguna" but a little smaller, with RWD and beemer's drivability, engines and premium quality? If yes - in general, it will be success.

I can't say I don't like it because I havnt seen it, but if no one bought the R class, what makes BMW think people will buy this? And what will it be, a 5 and a half series? 4.5 series...?
