Another dressed-up 2010 BMW 5-Series Touring has made its way into the open. These spy pictures show a wider, longer and taller Touring 5er than what we have on the streets today. Highly visible are the curiously cone-shaped rear lights just as they appear in previous spy shots of the car. A long reflective strip similar to that of the new 7-Series can be seen running across the boot lid. Front and rear lamps should feature LEDs but the design and shape will only become apparent as BMW shed more camouflage.
The Touring will bear extra interior and more rear loading space but BMW will use new-generation alloy metals plus aluminum panels to keep its overall weight-gain to a minimum.
The usual assortment of engines will be made available, from petrol to diesel power, from natural aspiration to twin turbo technology. Even a hybrid cannot be ruled out in this environment of low emissions targets. xDrive 4WD will be an optional extra on certain models.
BMW launched the current E60 5-Series in Europe in early 2003. Not too long thereafter the wagon or Touring version commenced sales as well. So following the car's 7 year production cycle it can be speculated that the F10 next-generation 5-Series Touring will first appear officially in mid to late 2010 and probably go on sale in 2011.

I don't like it.
Just as I don't like the new 7 series, and never really liked the current 3 series - the odd head lights and those old Nissan Primera tail lights have never actually convinced me. The 1 series is cool and somewhat sexy, but not half as harmonic, well balanced and proportionate as a Beemer should be. I also think the X3 and X5 are plain dull, boring, almost burocratic designs.
Which had me thinking: has BMW lost its ability to design some of the most stylish, handsome, sensual mainstream machines ever made? Yes, because as it seems, they can still make some brilliant niche vehicles, such as the amazing Z4, the surprising X6 or the polemic 6 series - my personal favorite. The rest is, to say the least, a little odd.
Well, maybe 'odd' works for some segments, but not for all. Maybe 'odd' is a risk worth taking. Maybe 'odd' is the new beautiful, and I was the one not to get the memo. Maybe 'odd' sells. But hey, that's just maybe.
also, i think people need to stop comparing current bmws to old ones - it's an entirely different design philosiphy that's never going to have anything in common with the old one, save kidney grilles, dual headlamps and the hoffmeister kink.
I admired the fact that BMW was coming out with these dramatic designs such as the last 7, the 6 series and Z4. And was glad that Mercedes got there head out there ass and followed the trend (CLS) and applied it to there current vehicles;(S,C, new E-class).
Which brings me to the current point, this "sport wagon" is bloated, and boring.
