More spy pictures featuring both the next generation 2011 Porsche 911 Coupe and Cabriolet have turned up. They were taken at a petrol station in northern Sweden where the cars are undergoing winter tests. The car codenamed 998 seems to be longer than the 997 which it succeeds in order to create more room for the backseat.

Exterior modifications seen on the spied cars are headlights akin to the ones in the 997 but raised higher to meet safety regulations and side mirrors that are attached to the doors. Although only functional prototype rear lamps, they are similar to those seen on the recently-spied next generation Boxster. LED lighting technology can be expected at both the front and rear ends.

The next 911 will be powered by new uprated direct-injection engines which will be mated to either a standard manual transmission or the PDK 7-speed double clutch system. Rumours even mention a less-powerful 3.0-litre engine for the 911. Power will be directed to the rear wheels or to all four in the 4WD models.

that thing they stick on the back is totally pointless, everyone already knows its a porsche. Anyway there isnt really anything to say about it becuase it looks like all the other 911's

That is a very interesting rear end, it might look even better than the current one if it will be like the camouflage. But knowing the bravery of Porsche designers I think not.

when will porsche leave in the side marker lights for the EU market???

shame on them that till now they still disable or take them out completely!

BMW is moving forward leaving them in and mercedes new e-class seems to be the 1st for the next model year...

"Rumours even mention a less-powerful 3.0-litre engine for the 911"

AHHHH!?!?!?!!? I hate you! what are they thinking? that's ridiculous!

Why don't they just take their performance oriented clientele, and point them in the direction of the nearest Aston dealer....? IDIOTS!

What is the world coming to... Next thing you know, there'll be a Porsche GT2 hybrid... what a waste of time

so the new 998 class has the bubble front fog lamps as the" 997" turbos i think its ugly and hopefully do away with it in future versions it appears longer to make more room for passengers "they need too make it shorter and wider for better handling just my 2 cents

That rear end I suspect is not for disguise. Although I don't think it will look like that, my guess is there's something underneath that bonnet and it's not a 6-cyl. I'm hoping they're testing 8-cyl motors and a traditional sloped bonnet isn't enough to fit whatever it is they're testing. Maybe a W8? These cars are in much need of a small displacement (4.0L or less), lightweight 8. How else can you compete going forward with N/A 6-cyl when the competition is at 420-500+hp. BMW gave in with the M3 and I think the Porsche 911 needs to do the same...that and move the engine forward of the rear axle!
