Ferrari SUV Rendered Yet Again

Ferrari SUV artist renderings

A Ferrari SUV might take some getting used to. The idea has been around for some years and this is the freshest artist rendition. It's an SUV by the definition of a vehicle with four doors, raised ride height, mostly fitted with a 4WD system and takes the shape of a station wagon/ tourer.

The vehicle with the codename "Ferrari FS 599 Fuoristrada" will be constructed out of aluminium and carbon fiber composites for weight-efficiency. Engines come from the naturally aspirated V8 found in the California and the 599 GTB's V12 powerplant. They produce in excess of 400hp and 600hp each respectively. While the latter's figure seems slightly excessive, Ferrari will not manufacture an SUV that will deliver average performance. It has to be the most powerful and by extension the fastest around.

Renderings of a Ferrari SUV have appeared before based on speculation that the Italian company was working on its first ever SUV. At the time Porsche was riding high with the great success of its Cayenne and premium brands like Mercedes-Benz and BMW had been building MLs and X5s for years before.

The Ferrari on high boots had been slated for a 2010 Geneva Motor Show debut but as things stand in the world economy there's no clear direction as to whether the project is still going ahead or not. With the recent announcement of an alliance with Ferrari parent Fiat and Chrysler LLC of America new possibilities have arisen. Such possibilities include a common SUV platform that can be shared with Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari itself. Product assembly could even be in the US just like Mercedes with the old ML and BMW with the X5 and X6.

This is never going to happen. It goes against everything Ferrari stands for. And the SUV market is in freefall. What's with the "will be" comments? Why bothering produced renderings? It's not even fun to speculate what such a bastartisation MIGHT look like...

Lambo SUV!?! Where? If you're talking about the infamous LM002, that was initially a military project, so at least it had a purpose in life! Unlike 99% of the SUVs of today...

I think, otherwise, Ferrari needs to build a cheap competitor of Fiat 500, but even cheaper, something around 8000 €… Why not? It would be great to have a Ferrari! Just to say we have one, red and all that stuff!

YOUR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT...!!! Ferrari will NEVER insult them selves with copy paste design of the California & photo shop it to look like a stupid Porsche Cayenne. They don't need to make SUVs to win customers like Porsche did. Adrian Porsche would kill the person that decide for Porsche to build a non Porsche vehicle. Ferrari is Ferrari & passionate DIE HARD Ferrari fans DONT like SUVs simply because its NOT a sports car...!!!

This is wrong.... People, we are talking about Ferrari!!! It's not a brand like BMW, Mercedes-Benz or even Porsche. These brands can have SUV's and no one will talk against them just because they build premmium and sportier cars and their main aim is to get profits and conquer all the sectors of the automobile market. Even Lamborghini doesn't have a brand so strong as Ferrari - that's the main reason they have built a SUV some years ago. They can also built a 4 door coupe and have a diesel engine in it like Porsche...that's not surprising!!! A Ferrari is a tottaly different car - they simply are dream cars and dream cars aren't SUV's... A Ferrari is a Ferrari and always will be a Ferrari =)

i think ferrari's starting to go a bit down-market.. what with the california coming out to make it a more accessible brand, lamborghini is starting to be a bit more exclusive, even if they don't have the same reputation. oh and just because a ferrari is YOUR dream car, does not necessarily mean it is everyones - i for example would take a standard murcielago over any ferrari built to date, and a gallardo over anything except the f40/50/60

ShinyG - Lamborghini did introduce a SUV several years back, but it never took off and I believe it only ran for leass than a year before Lamborghini shelved the model.

This is the dumbest post I think I've ever read on this site. Well, maybe not the dumbest, but definitely up there. Lamborghini has a much more exclusive brand than Ferrari. With Ferrari releasing the California, it is definitely more liekly for them to release an SUV than Lamborghini in the near future. And the Lambo SUV was a military type vehicle, not an everyday SUV.

Ferrari making chunky uncool SUV's? I'm gonna be sick..... It is as if though Volvo announces they're not putting seatbelts nor airbags in their cars anymore....it just makes no sense.....

dom6698
January 24, 2009 8:02 PM
since when is a 105 year old brand 'new'? OK maybe LR is newer. But why would they want a Ferrari SUV? Neither brand has that sort of 'buy it at any price' prestige.

January 24, 2009 8:02 PM
in any case, the Indians own these brands

has ferrai sold themselves to a german company like lamborghini did yet?

blay
January 25, 2009 10:36 PM
still owned by Fiat Group and sponsered by TATA motors. And just for the record. I don't care if the artist is affiliated with Ferrari or not, somebody should find out who he is and shoot him.

I just hope that the company that 'sells dreams' won't fall into the pressure of 'expanding their market' and start building 4-door super-sedans and this SUV nonsense because this is just going to kill the pedigree, kill the exclusivity, kill the dream.

What happened to always making 'one less car than they can sell?

It is Copy of Nissan Murrano.

Why the hell do people do this? it's the front of a Ferrari California.. sorry but, there's nothing artistik about this...

Besides, Luca Di Montezemolo already denied the fact that Ferrari will make a four dour coupe, and i personnaly respect that, so i don't think that one day Ferrari will make one of "those things" called SUV's..

Looks like a poor photoshop of a Mazda CX-7, they've ruined the pretty CX-7 and created a monster!
