the good thing about being audi is that you can showcase the A6 using parts from a movie featuring an A8, because only real car nuts can tell the difference =) and 3 mil for 30 seconds!! money well spent, but that's insane!

The A8 was a far more appropriate car for the part. I understand Audi marketing their "new" A6, but the A8 is nicer IMO. Good advertising, and this scheme seems to be working for Audi, considering they just outsold* BMW in their home market of Germany. *A4 vs 3-series

Should be an A8 but the A6 makes complete sense in this ad with primarily an American audience in mind for the Superbowl. Great brand recognition with that grille, cheaper than A8, new & efficient s/chgd v-6, and tarted up good looks. A6 is often the #1 seller in it's class in Europe and China. I think this is very, very clever and a smart response to the current economic climate. And if Audi has the pockets for the ad then good for them. Can you say "increase your market share?"
