2010 Hyundai Equus First Photos Surface
Hyundai Equus leaked images

New flagship Hyundai model will come with a 4.6 liter and a 5.0 liter V8

Some of the first images of the upcoming Hyundai Equus have made their way to the web.

These photos are not even in focus but already we can see Hyundai has nicked some styling cues from BMW. Just look at the multi-spoked wheels pattern and rear lighting design. Okay, so there's a little Mercedes-Benz in there too.

Well, in an earlier rendering of the Equus you almost see more Merc than Hyundai. It must be good news for the German premium brands that their Asian competitors have no ideas but to rip them off on design.

The 2010 Equus will be Hyundai's flagship model. It will be based on the Korean automaker's new rear-wheel drive architecture derived from the Genesis platform.

The new Equus will be driven by a 4.6 liter V8. A 5.0 liter V8 with about 400 hp will follow later. According to Hyundai Blog, both engines will likely feature direct-injection technology which comes from Hyundai's new Theta engine line.

Hyundai will also be loading the Equus with cabin technologies such as Lane Departure Warning System and a Pre-Safety Seatbelt System which can tighten a belt split-seconds before an impact.

The Equus will arrive in South Korean dealerships in February of 2010. A US launch will follow short afterwards.

The rear part reminds BMW series 5 & 7.

So disappointing in so many levels. I was hoping for some more soul, based on what I has previously seen on the renderings, but... that car looks just like a bloated Azera from the side, a stretched BMW from the back... well, plain dull.

WTF! This is aweful! There is something horribly wrong with the side view! It looks like a damn whale! It doesn't look imposing at all. It's like the Chevy Caprice mated with a BMW and gave birth to this thing. It's going to be an eye-sore in Seoul for sure...and there will be a thousand of these things on the road because stupid people think they need to drive the Equus to look important...which includes my boss who has an Equus...in black ofcourse.

Why nobody is screaming about this car's shameless copy of BMW's and Merc's like you guys used to do at China made cars. This is how hypocrite sometimes people can be huh.

...? The first three comments mention how it looks like a BMW. You think we, the WCF community, would spare a Korean car the aggression and insults we would pay a similarly awful Chinese car? Never!

Holy rear overhang, Batman! Can we hope this thing at least packs a 35-cu-ft trunk with all that booty? At least then it will be a functional airport limo.

I see some Toyota Yaris sedan features at the back; that's definitely not a good thing... all in all I'm glad it's not coming to my country.

Just saw one today at the parking lot of E-Mart (a large discount retailer) in Haeundae, Pusan! It had the front and the rear masked off with the usual black bra like stuff. It's not as big as I thought, just a tad bit bigger than the Genesis sedan... But still damn ugly. Think of it as a bloated Grandeur/Azera with BMW 7 Series rear. The interior was covered up with cloth so I couldn't make out the details of the dash, but the interior volume wasn't particularly cavernous.
