Ben Collins - the Stig

White Stig's future uncertain if rumors are correct

One of the key elements to Top Gear is the secret and silent Stig, but it appears the veil of secrecy has been lifted due to an art gallery owner and a builder who have both revealed his identity as 33-year-old Ben Collins.

Collins is a former racer who has competed in Formula Three, Le Mans, GT and NASCAR along with performing duties as a stunt driver in films such as the recent James Bond flick Quantum of Solace. Speculation about the Stig's identity has previously named Collins, but he had denied it.

Confirmation comes from an art gallery owner who says Collins came into his shop to order a print of the Stig in action. The owner said that "I was absolutely amazed when he said he was the Stig, it was quite a big thing in a weird way." A builder who had worked on Collins house also came forward to say that he saw a display cabinet with the Stig's white suit and gloves inside the residence.

The Stig's identity has been a closely guarded secret and Top Gear has a policy of not commenting on speculation about who is the Stig. Originally the show was launched with Black Stig, but after Perry McCarthy revealed that he was the Stig in his book "Flat Out, Flat Broke" in 2002, he was killed off. What this means for Collins remains to be seen, it would appear he didn't purposely reveal his identity but previous statements from the show hint that white Stig would also be killed off if his identity were to be revealed.

I think this is a red herring. The Stig's lap times get put on the F1 driver's board (except for individual car testing of course). This, along with the differing times between himself and the likes of Button and Hamilton suggest he's an ex F1 driver.

No way...the guy has a tremendous advantage on them - he knows the circuit blindfolded and the shitty car they drive in...therefore this would suggest he never got to the F1 level, cuz he should be able to find a couple seconds, given that the F1 drivers have a substantially limited time to get in touch with the track/shitty car...I say Blue stig (But mayB yellow would be better)

If anything the stig could be 2 or more people , it would be nice not to know as it has the element of being fun.

well I think that a Silver one or a Green would be better!

I don't care what WCF or any other site says, I will never ever believe who the "real" Stig is simply because I don't want to know. If I do know, that will pretty much ruin Top Gear for me. Even if the website is right, I don't care lol. So I never bother reading articles like this, but this time I decided to comment since the person's name is right in the headline

This is all just a cover-up. 5th gear must have been getting close to the technology to build their own tamed race driver!

I don't understand why people want to reveal his identity, it ruins the whole thing if they do which is bloody annoying.

If they do need a new Stig though, i'd say go with grey....not the most interesting colour but it'd make sense after having a Black and a White Stig.

agree...the Grey would be nice after Black and White STIG!!! So Black & White is comming

grey? lol, that'd be something like:

"some say that his identity has been revealed several times, some say that he mated with black stig and gave birth to a driver, all we know is that he is not the Stig, it's Grey Stig"

I dont think that there is only one Stig on Top Gear!

Thats why he is masked and can be replaced without any complications

But then the lap times wouldnt be fare becuase different drivers have different skills and driving styles so the lap times would be different

babymilo, thats the point of getting rid of the identity. it gives the impression that all the cars were tested by the same driver with the same skills... when in reality it might not actually happen like that. u never know, but hopefully theres some integrity in there somewhere!

I ave [osted many times on here that Ben Collins is The Stog. If you read the Heatlth and Safety Report into Hammond's accident it names Collins as a consultant to Top Gear and evidential witness. This is old news.

Now there's gonna be a colored Stig....or maybe a Fat Stig?

davegt
January 20, 2009 3:51 AM
there have been a couple fat Stigs... first is Stig's american cousing, and the second one is the lorry driving Stig....

i'm glad of having raised an issue on a possible colour for next Stig, if it were red as I suggested it might make us think of a retired Schumacher, but then again MS is fully comitted with Scuderia Ferrari at the moment... so yeah, why not a Green Stig....

ok, if it turns out to be a multi-coloured Stig, it would mean it was James May on disguise..

im pretty damn sure it really is james may! he never drives the fast cars, or any cars fast at all on the show... its all an act, hes really the stig!

James May with a Zonda F Roadster raced against the Stig with a Bugatti veyron ..
