Schway, now Porsche will have competition for the Cayenne and Painameera
January 19, 2009 11:33 am
mmm i dunno about that, the only reason the cayenne sold was because it had the enormous allure of the porsche badge. the same sort of applies to the four door coupes - notice how the only manufacturers going after it - porsche, bmw, lamborghini, audi, aston martin and mercedes - are probably the biggest names in the business, with really only ferrari missing, and even they might go for it if lamborghini does. a nissan badge doesn't really have the same appeal in most of the world, so i dunno if they'd sell...

Yeah, but they've got Infinity, they could stick that badge on the cars, and let's face it, stupid people buy a car just for it's badge, people who know a thing or two about cars, go test drive the cars they want to buy, compare the tech data, and they look at the design for God's sake, and the Painamera looks awful, the Cayenne expects a new gen soon, probably in the same time with the GT-R based SUV, so it should be a good fight, don't forget that everyone knows that Porsche have big car prices with relatively small production costs.

that's true, but don't forget the cayenne drives superbly for a 4x4. if nissan/infinity did manage to at least match that, then yeah it would be a good fight, but i think the cayenne would still win - if you're spending that kind of money, most people will see a porsche badge and jump at it, unfortunately..

So is the GTR being spun-off into a performance oriented sub-brand?
It should be better to just let the GTR alone as a brooding loner in the line-up with its unique identity...because it's too cool have relatives like a saloon and a damn SUV!
I thought that Nissan did a marvelous job dropping the Skyline name from the GTR and ditching the saloon and lesser GTS versions (like the previous generations)and just using the GTR badge on the hardcore performance car.
Adding more products will detract from its image...
And oh yeah...a new Honda Beat will be welcome!
