Before any of you say anything about why they would pay for this, its simple. Buyers will want to pay alot of money when they have it for a car that is rare, even if its largely just a paintjob. They will stand out from the crowd, and even if somebody replicates this paintjob, the buyers are safe knowing that theirs was true OEM spec.

 GRAVE GRAVE
who will pay $275k for a viper? ok it's nice car but does not deserve that price! adding $175k just because of some extras which actualy does not cost more than $35k is rediculous!

It isn't a nice car because uncontrolled power is not a real power. I think it has more power than it needs.

Me7274, its plenty controlled power. Even the base Viper has very good suspension, great tires and brakes. Its only missing Traction Control because the Viper is a true drivers car. Computers will not help you if you don't know how to control it, and aren't a good driver. Don't talk about things you don't know. Ask any Viper owner to tell you about how good his car handles.

Xanavi23, you said "Don't talk about things you don't know". First of all I think you thought that "I did not know how to drive a car". lol. Now I can't have a chance to show you my driving skills with my 120d(All electironics off). :)) (I know it isn't a Viper but as you said I'm a true driver.) On the other hand, it is a preference to like or dislike Viper. If I said that all the cars that have no electronics are bad, you can say "don't talk" to me and I understand. but I talked about just Viper not the other cars that have no electronics. Ok??? As a result don't say to me that "Don't talk about things you don't know" because you don't know my driving skills. My life is passed on the car because of our job.

You're comparing a FWD car to a RWD Viper with almost 600lbs feet of torque. I will apologize for disrespecting you though when i said "if you don't know how to drive i wasn't talking about you so don't put words in my mouth or keyboard, thanks chief. Secondly, you're still wrong. By all accounts, the base Viper is still a very good handling car. Im sure you're a very good driver, but don't compare a FWD car to a RWD car that has almost 3 times the hp and twice the torque, they aren't in the same league.

I think you are wrong too. Because 120 is a BMW so how can you say that it is a FWD car. but in any case I think lets we finish the polemic now. As a result I don't like Viper unlike you.

I thought the 120D was the hatch back and thought it was FWD, but its RWD, in any case. You still can't compare it to a Viper which the Viper still has great handling. You can not like the Viper thats fine but until now, your reasons for not liking it are totally false and made up. I don't like the Viper, i love it, it offers all around performance of cars that cost 3 times as much.

Of course, I am not comparing Viper and 120d and I know its performance and other specifications. If you read my second comment again you will understand. When I critised Viper I excluded the price advantage. On the other hand, TopGear hosts also think like me as they said in one of their programs while they were comparing Viper with another sports car. So I'm not alone in my opinion. You said you love Viper thats why you are so subjective.
January 19, 2009 7:10 pm
 Xanavi23 Xanavi23
Im not Subjective because another car that i love is a Murcielago which although is gorgeous and very fast has similar performance to the Viper while despite its 4WD system is only more stable to a grip and its grip/handling are barely better if at all. If you also watched Top Gear, you would have heard when JC said how much he loved the Viper for its uncompromising design. Its amazing powerplant. Secondly, do you remember in Top Gear when they tested the 599 Fiorano ? Remember what happened when JC turned off the TCS ? He couldn't keep the car from losing control The Point is, that the Viper is no less out of control than any other RWD sports car with the same amount of power. So again, that is an unfair criticism when it comes to high power RWD sports cars regardless of make.

*EDIT* I meant to say the Murcie is only more stable to a degree. *EDIT*

If I knew this subject will turn into a (no offense) meaningless dispute, I wouldn't write on it. There is no possibility for us to compromise on this insignificant matter.

a plaque with the buyer's name on it... that would make for interesting resale value - if you're famous, it'll double the value. if you're not, it'll halve it. let's just hope only famous people buy it, for their sake
January 19, 2009 1:52 pm
You guys are missing the point. The first car sold for $275K because it was auctioned off for charity. The remaining cars will not sell anywhere near $200K.

Very good point. The buyer of this will not only be happy with his car but also happy with his soul.

agree with Eville, the buyer obviously has a big wallet and a big heart. the question value for money is not a matter here.
