Previously, we told you about the Jaguar XF-R prototype, the fastest Jag ever produced by the company.  Trying to separate themselves from previous ownership, and create a new image for the luxury and sport automaker, Jaguar has released a 90 second music video of the car's record breaking performance at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

There, the XF-R, a supercharged version of the XF which reaches 510 hp, topped out at 225.674 mph (363.188 km/h).  This handily beat the previous fastest Jag, the XJ220, which topped out at 217 mph (350 km/h) in a 1992 run at Nardo.

At the time, the XJ220 was the fastest production car ever, a title eventually taken over by the McLaren F1.  McLaren's car managed 240 mph (386 km/h) at the same track two years later.

With help from the all-new third generation AJ-V8 engine, driver Paul Gentilozzi took the XFR on its trailblazing heat.  Mods to the prototype were minor, like small aerodynamic work, and safety features deemed necessary to drive on the Flats.  Gentilozzi got some additional horsepower thanks to a remapped computer, retooled air intakes & exhaust, and a retuned supercharger.

A six-speed automatic, the XFR prototype gets 510PS and 625Nm of torque from the 5.0-liter engine.  It goes 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

The way Jaguar's marketing department has been pushing out information on this prototype, you can expect to see it hit the auto show circuit along with a production model.  If you are going to be in the Detroit area, you can see the 2010 Jaguar XF-R at the North American International Auto Show.

i think it could go faster cuz the salt makes the car go slower as proved in top gear but what an amazing V8 sound

I agree Motorsport13. Salt (sort of like sand or loose gravel) dose not serve as the finest of traction surfaces. They may want take this machine to Nardo , if they are interested in a higher top speed.
