Jaguar R-Coupe concept

A report by Auto Express says Jaguar is busy putting together the final touches to a car scheduled for public reveal as a concept car just a year from now. According to AE's sources Jaguar's new special sports car could be called the XE, feature a mid-mounted engine and compete with the likes of Audi's R8. It would be the first mid-engined Jaguar since the powerful 549bhp (409kW) XJ220 of 1991 and the conceptual R-Coupe (pictured above) from 2001. The C-XE name has already been trademark registered along with the name CX-J.

The car is to be based on the XK but will be even more dramatic in styling than any of the new Jaguars.
Speculation has it that the Jaguar XE will make use of Jaguar's new 5.0-litre supercharged engine and tune it for more power than its current 510hp (380kW).

Jaguar and Land Rover parent Tata is pushing ahead with a number of plans to increase Jaguar's model lineup. But at the same time the British marque plans to limit its playing field in the luxury car market to only the high-end arena.

Nice to see Tata pushing Jaguar to a bold direction. If only thay could be that clever with their own brand, then indian cars could become the next chinese, which are the next korean, which are the next japanese... well you get the idea.

U know that a car needs about 4 years to develop, so we will see the indian projects in 2011, for now they are still working on Ford projects, and no, I don't want to see indian leadership at jaguar, they killed a CEO, remember?

Get over it Yakuza, the selling of Jaguar is final so whether or not you wanna see Indian leadership is tough luck. In Canada ive known alot of Indians and they're good, smart, hardworking ambitious people. They might be new to the car business but those qualities are great to have in any business.

Including killing a CEO, this is very handy in car business.

sorry to sound like an @$$hole before Yakuza, i actually like most of your posts. I haven't heard anything about killing a CEO, though it is effective in the business world. Thats a hideous way of conducting business, i hope its not true though we'll never know. What can i say man? i always liked Jaguar so i was happy to see them live someway, i just hope they didn't sell their soul to the devil.

I'm a fan of Jag too, and I'm afraid that it will lose it's british heritage and identity, in my opinion Ford made a good job at JLR and had to sell it in the desperate need 4 cash.

I agree, Ford did pretty good with Jaguar. The X-type and S-type in North America ALWAYS got good reviews, were fairly priced, offered good engines and good performance not to mention quality interiors.

Thats disgusting, just when you think India is getting more and more civilized, they do something like that.

You guys act like this doesn't happen in every other country. How many CEO's or managers have been killed by disgruntled workers in the US just this year? Fact is Jaguar would have never went in this direction under Ford due to the high development costs, as well as they did with them.

Unfortunately, if true, Jaguar are again focusing on the wrong product by considering an expensive jewel in the crown vehicle. Jaguar must launch a product to compete with the Boxster, accessible to the masses to generate high volume profit. The Boxster saved Porsche, hence a similar Jaguar success will allow greater investment in niche products and technology. I hope that the magazine article is wrong, and the mid engined vehicle discussed is the resurrection of the original X600 concept Boxster competitor that was mid engined prior to it's cancellation.

Perhaps that is the reason the article says it is a concept from 2001.

This story, as are most of them in AE, is rubbish. It won't happen. But they'll string it along for 6 months before they put out a "Jaguar supercar sensationally axed" headline.

That is the ugliest Jaguar is years.

What a step backwards for them! How could they pit out something like this after just releasing that sexy XF?!?!?

It looks like a Bentley Continental GT from 1995...

Why don't they do a modern version of the XJ220. That's a guaranteed success with Tata management!

I'm sure it will look nothing like the car pictured above which looks like a 1998 Grand Prix GTP to me.

But where will the platform will come from and does Jaguar have any 1st rate designers, engineers, and planners?

I don't want this car to have any Ford blood, or late-gen Lambo platform. If Jag wants to be a real company it must create a new global platform to use for the XJ, XK, and XE-and it must be 1st rate. TATA Jag

Why does everyone hate on Tata? They are one of the best run businesses in the world. Be grateful that they bothered to save these ever failing marquees. T
