US automakers have pulled out of the Tokyo motor show.

Ford, GM and Chrysler won't be participating in the Tokyo motor show this year, the automakers confirmed on Wednesday.

"At this time, participating in the show just isn't a strategic priority," Ford spokeswoman Jennifer Flake said.

A spokesman for GM Asia Pacific said the 2 million US dollars it would cost the automaker to take part in the show would be better spent elsewhere.

Chrysler also cited its current troubles as a reason for skipping the show.

The Tokyo auto show is scheduled to take place from October 21 to November 8 but organizers are debating whether to cancel the show this year due to the crisis that has hit the global automotive industry. Given that the major US automakers have pulled out, some Japanese members of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) believe they should cancel it for this year.

The committee that governs the motor show will be deciding early in February whether or not to hold the show, according to Toshihiro Iwatake, executive director of JAMA.

Of course they did. They realized they would be beaten there by the domestic car makers, so it`s a logical move not to spend 2 mil. dollars only to look bad compared to the japanese cars.
