Honda NSX Mugen RR concept

The Tokyo Auto Salon sees the public revelation of the Honda NSX Mugen RR Concept. The concept has been inspired by the Honda NSX sports car which was recently put on production hold by Honda. It features a new hood with new air vents, new side sills, a rear boot spoiler, an air vent at the back of the roof, a new rear apron with integrated exhaust system and air diffuser, and a new front lip spoiler.

Last month Honda announced that it had cancelled the 2010 NSX project amid cuts in funding for projects seen as too costly during these trying times in the auto industry.

From the see-through technical cutaways published the NSX was shown to have a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 engine. It was expected to produce in excess of 500hp (378kW) and Honda bosses had demanded that it be faster than the Nissan GT-R.

No further details are yet available on the NSX Mugen RR Concept.

I love the NSX but so much about this design is unnecessary. Problems: 1. I don't like how mugen covered the original functioning side sills/intakes. It takes too much away from it's original identity. 2. When will automakers stop trying to make gas caps/covers auto jewelry? They're eyesores, give it up! 3. Lose the Moby Dick size spoiler. Better yet, why? 4. The confused rear bumper is way too busy for my taste. What 16 year old boy racer came up with that one? Although I think veilside's version is better, I'd still rather have a stock NSX, minus both body kits.

You do realise that some of the largest gaudy spoilers and body work are also the most effective and functional ? The bodykit isn't made by Erebuni, its by Mugen and is very close to the race Super GT NSXs that have bodies built for the absolute BEST downforce whilst keeping drag as low as possible. Its fine not to like the looks, but its foolish to say that its some 16 year olds dream and totally crap in design. It might be his/her dream but if ain't broke don't fix it. With a 500hp V10 NA, its nice to have as much downforce as possible, especially outback given the inherent driving characteristics of an M/R car.

... but this one doesn't have a 500hp V10; it has a V6. And this is a road car, so aesthetics are still important, because, while it may look like a GT500, its performance will still be a compromise.

No, the technical cut-out papers say THIS car features the 5L V10 from the defunct F/R NSX super car. Thus with this much power, downforce is nice to have.

Yes, I realize without "gaudy spoilers and body work" in formula one, LMP, and GT class cars you'd basically have what would be an airplane without wings. However, that's not the case here. It may look like a SGT500 but it won't have the 5 liter V-10 you mentioned. If so, where's the technical information to support that? And exactly how would this car be built? Considering that the NSX is 19 years old, been out of production since 05', and Honda just recently pulled the plug on it's entire sport car development programs I don't see the possibilities of this ever happening. To this point it's purely a show car that's only being made for Spoon and Mugen. Second, I never said this car was crap. The NSX was a legendary sport cars and the reason I've been a loyal Honda/Acura customer since I turned 16; almost 14 years ago. Implying that Mugen's version was 'all show and no go' isn't calling it crap but rather bring attention to a problem some have with Honda's ricer image. In other words, if it doesn't have the performance to match the looks then...

I guess you missed the last part of the article; "From the see-through technical cutaways published the NSX was shown to have a naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 engine. It was expected to produce in excess of 500hp (378kW) and Honda bosses had demanded that it be faster than the Nissan GT-R." Be Patient.

The article mentions the scrapped 2010 NSX project and makes mention of the 5.0L V10 visible in said project's cut-away diagrams -- not this particular NSX. It is not your fault, though; this particular journalist, Thami Masemola, is not the clearest writer. I have a sneaking suspicion English isn't his first language.

Bremen, i figured that was what it meant but i guess im a victim of my own wishful thinking. I would love a classic NSX with the V10 power though with Honda dropping all cars with any remote sportiness i doubt even a V6 NSX replacement would come...I find it Ironic, Toyota took losses i the business too, yet they push ahead with their LF-A while Honda goes as far as to kill off a fairly efficient sports car, the S2000 replacement. Irony.

This NSX engine is longitudinally mounted!! That's a major redesign if based on the roadgoing NSX! Maybe it is just a JGTC NSX converted for road use.

The literature on Mugen's official website says it is powered by the Honda C32B engine. The C32B is the final iteration of the NSX V6 engine. But it is mounted longitudinally and not transversely like the standard NSX.

The NSX was special back in the early 90s, now....It's not that special, i mean power, performance, with a price that is above a GT-R and a 911 i don't think so.
