They should instead try a new market and build a RWD car with the same engine! Call it the "European Miata!". I'd buy a decently priced RWD machine anyday!

Same here! These Renault Alpine and RWD layout based MB A and B classes (just rumors perhaps) are too far away to be so patient. One part of crisis in car industry is coming visible here: They are not aware what they are doing or even worse, they do not know what they are about.

Well Said, It seems so obvious that the time is right for a line of RWD two door and four dour coupes with a short wheelbase roadster variant. Size this series to be powered with the smallest practical inline or boxer six cylinder motor. This Abarth will sell in limited numbers because it's appeal is mostly towards, well, just look at the picture. Few women in their 20's and early 30's are so car focused to spend this kind of money. Make RWD's with a options for number of doors and open air roof and men and women will both buy in good numbers. I'm kind of sad about this because I was really hoping that a Fiat division (Alfa, Abarth or Lancia) would someday come to the US with a small to mid size RWD range at less than BMW money with more than BMW styling acumen. Teases appear every few months and then fade away.

Yes it is so - at least I think it is. Nothing so much further could be added may be perhaps thing I have a courage to predict the change of current situation in US car market. Two European car makers are about to go America, Alfa with the Mito and new Giulietta and Citroen too. However that global crisis might slow things down but not for very long time. So lets hope together.

Looks like a SMART Coupe update. I say well done FIAT because Project Kimber ain't gonna do jack diddly squat with the dimunitive gas efficient roadster.
