2010 Mercedes E-Class sedan brochure scans leaked

Early in December 2008 the very first official pictures of the new 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class were leaked. And now less than a month later a scanned chunk of the marketing brochure with some detailed technical information and pictures has also been leaked.

Contained in the German-language brochure are very intimate details of the 2010 E-Class. The car is 4.868 metres long and has a wheelbase of 2.87 metres. It comes with a range of engines with 4 and 6 cylinder models in both petrol and turbo diesel form. With the exception of the E350 4Matic models and E350 BlueTEC, all other models are BlueEfficiency equipped. Powerplants include the E200 CGI with 135kW (184hp) and 270Nm, E250 CGI with 150kW (204hp)and 310Nm, E350 CGI making 215kW (292hp)and 365Nm, and the 285kW (388hp) E500 producing 530Nm.

Diesels are pretty strong too. The E200 CDI is good for 100kW (136hp) and 360Nm, from the same engine its E220 sibling does 125kW (170hp) and 400Nm. At the top end we find an E250 CDI with 150kW (204hp) and 500Nm plus a 3.0-litre E350 CDI with BlueEfficiency makes a heady 170kW (231hp) and 540Nm of torque.

Pretty much all the styling details of the E-Class can be seen; from front to the sides to the rear. The standard car is defined by its 9-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels and the chrome grille. Some styling packages like the ELEGANCE and AMG Sports Package are available to assist buyers when individualizing the look of their cars.

The ELEGANCE Package offers features like the liberal use of chrome for styling while AVANTGARDE models are sportier and more agile in their appearance. The differences up front are very clear when the two models stand side by side. ELEGANCE models feature double foglights on each side and more chrome on the grille while AVANTGARDE models have different shaped LED foglights below the bi-xenon lights and one less chrome rib on the grille. Wheels are 17-inch alloys.

Differences extend to the interior where high quality materials are evident for both packages but ELEGANCE uses more contrast of leather with wooden materials whereas AVANTGARDE cars are fitted with aluminium to emphasize their sportier feel. An EXCLUSIVE package is also available featuring luxury materials like Nappa leather upholstery and Alcantara. The AMG Sports package comes with sports seats, a contrasting interior colour scheme and an expression of dynamic power.

Although no details of the actual E-Class AMG are in these leaked brochure scans, this particular package gives a good idea of what it might look like.

It's not just you, I'm with you 100%. It looks really cheap like bad costume jewelry. MB have totally lost the plot in the style department in recent models. This one reminds me of the design failures from South Korea a decade ago, back in the days before the Koreans learned how to create cars with a higher quality, classy appearance.

Just add AMG Pkg and some 20 inch wheels.

Also, it's not like the 5 series is a looker. That thing was butt- when it first came out, and still is.

I dunno, I'd hold judgement until I actually see this car in decent trim on a good day. Yes, the pictures don't look all that great, but I think this car will look alot different in real life. Even Mercedes knows that an ugly car is not the best thing to do.

My own opinion, is that it has alot of C class styling aspects. The C Class doesn't look too bad, but I hope this looks good for Mercedes's own sake. The E Class coupe looks so damn good, it would be a shame for this to dissapoint.

Would agree, something not right about it, could just be that disgusting jewish racing gold colour the pics show.. I actually think the current E Class Estate is areally good looking car, not up there with a BMW 5 Ser Touring but close. Maybe it's the angle, colour and it needs to be seen in the metal

Ugly or not, it makes you look RICH.

In the Middle East, China, Russia and - honestly - mostly everywhere else, will sell like hot cakes.

hmmm...mixed feelings, I don't like the fog light desing, both variants, and the interior looks like a step back from the s class. I will have to get used to this one.

looks old fashioned like its customers, designed for grandpas. i am looking forward to the new A6 in 2011, it will be much hotter and the benchmark then, no doubt.

Well, I still don't care for the view from the rear but I do I have to say that the rest of the car has grown on me. The interior materials look vastly better than in any E-Class since the 80's. Probably drives as smooth and solidly as can be. Hopefully they can introduce this product and skip all of the quality problems that they've had in the last 10+ years or so.

Come on Merc...you can do better than that. The current one looks alot more modern than this....those wrinkled leather on the side of the door remind me of my grandpas drapes

The interior is very old school, but that shouldn't be a bad thing (not for Mercedes if they can set the trend).

Wow! This is not a very compelling design. Nothing about it commands attention or power. After all these years, and so much rich history, the recent crop of designs are trendy, not timeless. Who will want this car in 10 or 15 years? No one, yet at the same time an Audi A8 will look just as good as the day it rolled off the line. My wish is for Mercs to start behaving like the lean, elegant, powerful, and commanding machines they were, while looking to future with technology like they used to; to drive home the point the Lexus LS offers the first LED Headlights; this kind of first, like ABS, would have been delivered by Merc if they were still on top... as shown by this design, they are not. Drive on people, drive on!

damn... now THAT is class right there... right up there with the S-class kinda, very close. very elegant, basically designed for the older generation. however, since i'm young, i'd obviously by the new c-class... cuz damn, that's also one hot ride :D:D

Some people don't seem to understand business! Mercedes make cars for all kinds of people! For example the E-class is for mature but still very active people! And if you need some more passion, then you can have the mother of all sports saloons - the CLS! Also I have to admit that the asian styling of the rear is quite nice! So the new E-class could become as glorious as some of its predecessors from the 70s and the 80s!

ShinyG
January 7, 2009 10:13 AM
I guess the new higher roofline is to distinguish the car more from the CLS! This car is to the E-Class what the new Skoda Superb is to the VW Passat, a taller, fatter, more commonly designed car! That being said, I still like the CLS or the previous gen E-Class better.

WOW I was waiting everyday for the pics to come , this is so hideous wow , it is UGLY , interior is TOP NOTCH though , but i would never drive this , it is so for old people not even funny , I'm sure in person it'll look rich and all but it's just OD , however front with amg looks good , so I'll still leave a hope for a coupe

I like the front a lot it's really agressive with LED fogs and amg sport package , and interior is nice , but the rest of the car is FUGLY hyundai

mercedes benz are going to the core consumer of e - class..a conservative " diplomat "..this car will totally attract that kind of consumer..it will appear in almost every embassy or government office or big old company..the merc engineer knows what they are doing for this e - class..they are not going for 5 series sport attitude, or audi flashing LED front end.. this e class wil sell like hot cakes eventough the exterior is not for everyone's favour...

I can't believe they still kept the old engines, except the diesel 350 and even that only got a little horsepower upgrade. I was expecting the petrol 350 with somewhere around to 300 bhp mark, and the diesel 350 around 260 bhp and most of all the 500 with a 400 bhp mark. What will happen when BMW releases the 5-Series with around 320 bhp for the 6 cylinder and 400 bhp for the V8, and not to mention the 280 bhp diesel I6 that will sell a lot in Europe. I was expecting more Mercedes.

boyke69
January 7, 2009 1:30 PM
Sorry I meant to say around the 300 bhp mark.

boyke69
January 7, 2009 1:32 PM
And if I would buy this I'd take the Avantgarde because the quad foglights look weird. And the rear is hideous.

ck314
January 8, 2009 12:09 AM
Dude, can you even read? ALL engines are new, except the V8 500 (diesel: Bluetec V6 and BlueEfficiency I4, direct injection petrol CGI) and the 3.5 CGI is more than 300hp in practice (292hp for marketing purpose in respect to S and SL-class), big deal...

boyke69
January 8, 2009 3:08 PM
Yes you're right, but still BMW engines are so much better.

ck314
January 8, 2009 4:37 PM
I don't think the new generation of inline 4 diesel engines are below BMW's equivalents, eventhough it's true that their petrol inline sixes run and sound (even) better, and it's about time MB updated their V8's with at least direct injection and lighter materials. BMW's new gen V8's fuel efficiency is amazing without losing one ounce of charm or performance.

This is a joke right? I mean this car looks like a Hyundai from several years ago while they were still trying to figure out American style. I'd take the Genesis over this in about a second.

Grandads all over the world are going to love this new Merc, it's one seriously boring motor!!! Jaguars XF is the class leader in this segment still, the XF is so modern and contemporary in every way...

January 7, 2009 4:59 PM
I think it is more elegant than the current model. Of course I need to see it irl before I can make a real judgement, but so far it looks good. I wonder why everybody in here says that Audi looks so good? That is the most boring car on the whole planet! It looks like they´ve only made one design, and then adjusted it to every model in their lineup. And another problem with Audi. If you look at the R8 from the side, it looks so heavy in the front, and like the front wheel is to far from the front end.. so it does on every Audi. Just my opinion.

Keep up Merc, this is another good design for increasing old population. Good job!

ever seen brabus cars? and you better go easy with those uppercase letters. you might get 'banished'.lol. apart from that the only thing i like about this car is the front end. the rest is pretty controversial. need to see it in person to think otherwise. cheers

Did you know that part of Hyundai Genesis marketing budget is dedicated explicitly to negative blogging and reply posting against MB new E class and upcoming 2011 BMW 5? Think about it...

For somebody in 1992, for example, the actual E looks newer than this 2010 E, specially the interior. Not the technology.

January 7, 2009 10:17 PM
WHY?!?!? Frik this thing is disgusting... Those fog lights look like exhaust pipes... The whole thing is way too pointy- I really think the old round headlights were much better (and I KNOW everyone else on here agrees.) Hey am I the only one who noticed how whak the mirrors look? The whole thing just sucks... And people- if you think about it really hard, you too will notice how much better Merc's previous generation models look than their newer ones...

dolcegabbana
January 7, 2009 10:48 PM
well the new cl looks better than the old one , the new s looks better than the old one , the new ml looks better than the old one, but the rest lol maybe ahaha , this car has no excuse

Ive been waiting to see these pics for along time and Im overall happy with it. Im not sure what is up with the double fog lights or the L shapped LEDs, but I think if they just NEVER sell this car in that odd gold colour it should do ok. I really do like it though, it hints back to the older Mercedes. the current E class has alweighs been VERY boring to me, espically before the facelift, this not so much. Im not crazy about the back of it, but other than that I really do like this car. I cant wait to see the coupe! And you guys, why do you keep saying Mercedes stole these headlamps from Lexus when Mercedes came out with them in 1995 on the W210 and THEN Lexus introduced them on the GS in 1997?

ck314
January 8, 2009 12:02 AM
Immature tasteless boy-racer MB heritage illiterate freaks. It has been said once and again that E-class sedans were never meant to be head turners or Villa d'Este contest's winners. It's just about functional ultra-comfy long range tourers or luxury cabs/diplomat carriers. And they have done their homework! Not beautiful, but has personality and the interior looks like a cocoon, great for a relaxing family car on long trips. Just like every other Benz in this segment before. Definitely looks more upscale than current model, way too bland especially from 3/4 rear view IMO.

Everybody is saying that the e class copied the lexus gs. Lexus copied them before. All mercedes is doing is making a new design that fits well with the outgoing model, but is still evolutionary. I think that the car oozes pizazz and i think its modern and classy. The interior is great and I think that the center console looks amazing, especially the location of the command knob. The interior has the feel and quality of the S class and the modern look of the c class without using the c class's poor materials. I think that this is a step in the right direction for mercedes and it will do very well against its competitors

trekkerbin
January 8, 2009 5:30 AM
Wow, the interior design is way more chiseled than previous models. Mercedes used to. I remember that there were massive amount of round, and smooth curve designs in the past. Maybe they are trying to approach to a more tech-looked designed. I think that I need some time to get used to the new exterior and interior designs. Reminds me of W124's designs : )

I wish there was the option between the two grilles as in the new C-Class. The grille used on the C63 would look great on this, bar for the double headlights and odd rear.

ck314
January 8, 2009 4:26 PM
A sporty front grille would look out of place on such a big, classic sedan, contrary to the dynamic and compact C-class. So they save it for the *real* E-class coupé, the CLS.

I'd say the 2010 E-class lost its character....just like copy cat from both Lexus GS+ Cefiro......so bad today Merc style has to mimic the Japanese

I am huge mercedes lover, have owened a couple of them and have a 2004 e 220 cdi avantgarde, and i am totally amazed everyime i sit in my e-class, the interior design i just delicte and flawless. So i knew that this new e class would be a some kind of more old school squared design, too be honest it is a well desined car but....i am not satisfied yet. But when w211 i own first came out i did not like it either...you see that is what mercedes is ..their design is usually 4-5 years in front of every other car maker, so whenever a new mercedes comes out inthe beginnin everyboy says its ugly, but soon later the mood is changed to appreciation.

And for all nerd kids who talkes about Lexus, and mercedes copying them...just take a phone call call to a lexus designer or engineer, they will tell you honestly the admire merced-benz, but they will never admit it openly..and can you really accuse michael jackson for copying usher an justin timberlake...??? come on..mercedes ha never copyied any car brand, but lexus and other companyies has more or less always been stealing from MB.

At the end..i will say ...i giv the new e class chance...and wait a few month for this vine to become better.

I concur ... I'm HUGELY disappointed at the styling ... this reminds me of the old JAP cars (like the Crown) from decades back ... when I first saw the new C-Class and CL-Class, I was awe inspired, and was very eager to see what the E-Class would become ... however, like I said I'm hugely disappointed ... I'd rather buy the current E-Class (if i had the money !)

boyke69
January 11, 2009 12:05 PM
I think it's a disappointment. Even though it is aimed at the older ones, it still doesn't look luxurious enough, and I'm pretty sure that's what they wanted their E-Class to look like. The old E-Class looked very elegant and luxurious, but this one looks cheap and unpleasant. I think the AMG is going to look nice, though.

boyke69
January 11, 2009 12:09 PM
Another thing though that I'm still confused. In the brochure pictures it shows that the gear lever is in the steering wheel, but the latest low res pictures show that it has a normal gear lever. But I don't know.

cmtwhk
January 15, 2009 11:19 AM
Again as I said before, the W211 comes with more pleasant European elegant look (more ntural beauty) vs this W212 with huge made up to bold it up...as a result though W212 looks good, its lost its character and carisma.
