New spy shots of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupé have popped up.  Photographed in Germany, anticipation is boiling over for Stuttgart's replacement line for the CLK.

Looking rather dynamic in the metallic dark grey paint with silver lined windows and five-point alloys, one can't help but wonder if this car was meant to be photographed before its debut.  A very sleek, but slightly covered black beauty was seen as well.  Clearly, the car has taken some inspiration from the FASCINATION concept shown at Paris in 2008.  Engine options begin with the 1.8 liter turbocharged petrol, and stops with the mammoth AMG 500 horsepower machine.

On sale this year, the Mercedes E-Class Coupé will likely debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.  The E-Class four-door sedan is coming to the NAIAS in Detroit, and the convertible should see daylight later in the year.

The blue and the black one are ready for shipping by airplane into the US. So i think that Daimler will unveil the new coupe already in Detroit. Interesting is also, that there are two wrapped RR Sport on the Picture. Maybe the facelifted 2010 generation?

looks more like a RR jet engine but you're right about the us spec versions

lol you meant range rover duh you deserve to be 'banished' for being ambiguous

That city pic makes this car look looooong. All I'm worried about is the front. If it's as ugly as the E-class sedan, that's another car in the MB range screwed.

handsome proportions and lines but what's with that weirdly shaped fat rear fender?!? ok in a functional e-class but was it really needed on this car?

i think he's referring to the SUV wrapped in cellofane in front of the CLK (i refuse to call it an E-Class coupe)

Well you're gonna have to get used to saying E-class coupe since there won't be any CLK logo on it.

Why is the rear window split into 2 near the back? Looks a bit weird. Unless is part of the camoflage?

why are there range rovers as well? a white one and a dark one. i hope mercedes are not comparing them to their current range of suvs.... lol and yes rr is for both range rovers and rolls royce.

I have two issues with this car. Firstly, that window arch is pretty long and goes over the rear wheel excessively; I'd rather have a thicker B-pillar. Secondly, I would've preferred a continuous beltline as opposed to the one above, which looks like the one on the Continental GT and makes the rear end look a little too thick and high. This is still a beautiful car and I have yet to judge it before I see the thing in real life.

The fact that the window is split near the end compensates it somehow, probably to allow for a bigger space when open, and also to reinforce the CLS look...? I concur with you about the belt line though.

The body is not bad , the rims are awefull size , and design , and it seems like they're going to offer the led fogs only with lighting package , and thats not cool , even infinity , and acura comes out with all led tails , and headlights , mercedes is still coming out with cars with reg lights , thats so cheap I just don't get it at all

Infiniti and Acura have anemic options lists, you just can't compare their marketing approaches. You have to verify your facts about this car's standard equipment, but even if that were the case, BMW sticks to their, in my opinion, less striking fiber optic "angel eyes", and Audi doesn't offer standard LEDs in this price range either (A5) -except top versions.

It looks better than the current range, but the car is definately out of proportion. Loook at those ugly wheel arches... the front seems to have a lack thereof and the rear has an excessively huge one, making the car look so fat. The rear lights are like the C Class, but more extended. The front just looks ugly from the side.

I partly share those remarks you make, but also consider that the car on the first pic bears the AMG styling pack that makes it look too heavy sideways plus a weird front bumper and headlights are covered with black tape.

It looks like a CL-Class to me, is this like a more affordable version of the CL?

Yeah the CLK was a smaller CL class, its based on the E class and the CL is massive its almost the size of an S class.

All CLKs (including this one) have been based on the C-class. Even with a new title like "E-class coupe", Mercedes gets the packaging right by basing off the smaller "more nimble" c-class. Its a common misconception.

I think Mercedes should be very carefull not to 'canibalize' the CLS range, because this one looks like it could steel some cls potential buyers. Still, for me it looks nice.

I dont know why but i think it looks abit like an r class, but i think it doesnt look to bad.

It just looks like a CLK that was updated along with all the other classes. But, it does look good.

I have been assuming (and I guess hoping more) that the split in the rear window was simply for "camouflage" purposes. I truly hope this piece doesn't make production. Without the spilt I love the design, with the split an not nearly as attracted. Any other ideas anyone...?

It isn't camouflage, and it's better this way for the reasons I said ealier in this post. Otherwise the rear window would appear too long, almost as long as the front which would be wrong, and it will probably allow for the opening part to reach deeper within the fender (if it's meant to open at all!)

Rear end is cheap and nasty looking, looks too similar to nearly every other Merc out there, nothing special...

It would be very interesting to see what the cab looks like and if it will be hard or soft top. I think it has a beautiful but menacing look to it andwould definately appeal to all age groups. I own a CLK cab and I love this car so I don't think I will be dissapointed with the next generation :-)

I like this car very much, it looks very pleasing to the eye and I cannot wait until they show it next week and some time before when the photographs get leaked ahead of the debut.

(take THAT wcf)

At last the revival of the proper E-Class coupe, which was intended to be the CLS. Let's hope this new coupe will restore some of the solidity of the w124 coupe.

To be honest, the past 2 CLK's have been confused, the first model based on the new e-class (not pillarless), the second being c-class based and of low build quaility, especially switchgear which has only been marginally improved in the facelifted model.

Given the shots of the 2010 e-class, it seems some of the straight lines, and simple efficiency will prevail in the new model and so this should be carried through into the coupe. I also hope some attempt is made to move away from tacky plastics. Benz should remember what they are good at, solid engineering, high build quality, inviting interiors (wood, leather and solid / simple textures).
