Fisker has announced plans to debut their new Karma S 'Sunset' Convertible concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month. The company has been tight-lipped about the concept but judging by the name it will most likely be based off the production version of the Karma sedan that will also debut at the show.

According to Autobloggreen.com "Sunset" in Italian translates to "Tramonto" which happens to be a previous hard-top convertible Fisker model based on the Mercedes SL 55 AMG. Looking closely at the teaser image we can see there is no B-pillar indicating the roof is down.

Expect the concept to be a plug-in hybrid with an electric powertrain that features GM's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine for recharging the batteries. In the Karma sedan drivers can expect to travel up to 50 miles before the gasoline engine kicks in, how the conversion to a convertible affects this remains to be seen. Judging by the fact that Fisker is a former designer for Aston Martin and the Karma sedan is rather striking, expect no less from the new concept when it debuts on January 12.

Earlier this year we reported that Henrik Fisker had shown a picture of an upcoming Karma based convertible to the J.D. Power Roundtable in San Francisco, so it would appear that the ‘sunset' could either preview this vehicle or be it. At the time Fisker stated that the Karma sedan would spawn both convertible and coupe siblings, he as also hinted that the convertible would most likely join the lineup sometime in late 2009.

Doesn't look bad! Very Maserati-esque.

Beautiful. I would buy one. We should be rewarding these companies with new ideas vs bailing out companies with continued bad ideas

The photos showing a full car aren't of the concept. The car in those pics are he Fisker Tramanto and Latigo (based off of the SL and the 6-series, respectively). And yes, they did look rather cheap.

This looks unusually conventional to me after having seen the beautiful Karma sedan. Not necessarily ugly or bad, just very, very conventional in appearance.

I just read the comment from Asger, so now it makes more sense why I thought the full pictures look conventional.

Hey guys, just a reminder. If you see photos that don't make sense with the topic, just make sure to check out the photo captions found immediately below each photo. That will usually explain it. They are most likely being included for reference.

Okay, I like to be teased by women, not cars! Just show me the damn product already! Chances are, we're going to be disappointed anyway so what's the big damn deal? A little less hype please. Let the car sell itself why don't they?

I myself don't think this car looks cheap. It looks very distinctive indeed, with elegant, fluid lines and a contemporary approach on luxury. Still lacks heritage, of course... but they might be just in the right path to build one for the next century. Just hope they can get rid of the mustache and come up with some decent 'family face' while building their brand identity.
