Yep, made in China, and a Chinese name BUT?
Technical director ? David Lindley (British)
Development work ? Ricardo (British firm)
Design ? all British team led by Tony Williams (British)
That?s because the old Rover Group took all the money BMW loaned them and put it towards the Directors salary, pension and benefits (? no private jet, as they couldn?t afford it! ? with apologies to the Big3)

My concern is having dealt with Chinese manufacturers before is that they make the best sample lot for evaluation, testing, and regulatory standardization...but once the actual production lot gets made it becomes a different story!

Very true. In addition to that, I doubt whether SAIC has bribed the test center or not.

To schizo0223 and Wah_Paul
According to a news source
"The test crashes have been conducted in north Chinese city of Tianjin. CATARC official said that the C-NCAP operators this time bought the 21 units of the seven models directly from these brands' 4S stores or dealerships without the carmakers' knowledge. Three cars of each model then underwent three crash tests after the exhaust emission and fuel consumption testing. The test results were ranked by the C-NCAP standards."
The main point is not about with or without British help, if we have to mention that then should bring talk about Hyundai with help from Mitsubishi in its early stage or should we talk abotu French cars hiring Japanese engineers to help fix up their flawed cars back in the days. This is about learning and improving no matter who the assistants are. This go to show that they are determined to improve themselves.

@ 9Tnine
I don't know why you have to talk like a racist here. You should know why people here make the comments that they do, given the past record of Chinese cars crash tests and I am not talking about Euro-Ncap, I am talking about C-ncap, I bet you don't even know that Chinese cars such as Chery QQ, Lifan 520, Chang'an Ben Ben.... did very badly in the C-ncap (let alone Euro-Ncap)
So it should not be a shocking surprise to you that people say such thing. But unlike them, I give it the benefit of the doubt, provided that Chery A3 is Chery's latest model, and I heard that Chery has been working with a British engineering firm and has a few Japanese engineer under their command and Chery has been delaying the release of A3 to upgrade it, same with Roewe 550, this is supposed to be SAIC's high end model with a lot of safety features, thus I am not too suprised (although just a little bit) that Chery A3 and Roewe 550 got 5 stars in C-Ncap. Can Chery and SAIC sustain this record. Will other Chinese brands learn from Chery and SAIC ?

When the Euro NCAP was first introduced, well established marques like the Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class and Saab 9-3 faired rather poorly. Only their prior (perhaps unjustified) reputation prevented them from suffering the same fate.
Racist...! Me? No I'm a cynic?
No mateer what you write, someone, somewhere can find offense with it. People who cry "racist" are usually Racist Anti-racists themselves.

I beg your pardon, sir. I mislooked at the name, I think that was not you but some other guy who was chanting some racist slogan about white people. Once again sorry.
