If Alonso was so good he'd be given a Ferrari seat wouldn't he? And the results of the last six races doesn't make him the best driver of the entire season.

So you think being handed a drive at Ferrari on a plate is easy, do you? Considering the current financial state carmakers are in, I don't think even the likes of Ferrari would want to shell out tens of millions to buy out either Raikkonen or Massa, would you?

Why not just let Italian newspapers decide the world championship, who needs to race at all?

Best driver of 2008 ?! Are you kidding me? he did a bit okay for driving an inferior car but all he did was whine and complain like a brat the whole season, not to mention being so jealous of Hamilton he wouldn't acknowledge the mans skill, saying it was just luck. Alonso is a REAL loser...there ought to be some attention paid to a drivers character. Alonso reminds me alot of a woman, that likes to b*tch and whine all the time.

I don't particularly like the guy, but he probably deserves the title. But, saying "The Best" is over the top. It should have the title which reflects the general ability given the cirumstances he was in. For manufacturers, Alonso is a real investment, because of the combination of his skill, his feedback and his competitive nature. Having said that, I do think other drivers could also be recommended for the title. For example, kubica drove stunnigly all year round, and through the latter half of the season, he had a car which was mostly unchanged.

I agree with the Kubica nod. He did very well, considering BMWs budget is nowhere near as big as Ferrari's or McLarens.
