Do you trust mpg ratings? I don't! You think 42mpg is impressive for a diesel? How about for a petrol engine? http://www.worldcarfans.com/9081217.019/porsche-911-carrera-achieves-42-mpg-with-pdk-trans ;)

ShinyG, 1) the Jag engine produces a hell of a lot more torque, and hence is more drivable, 2) the porsche achieved those figures on the highway, the jags figures are combined highway/city driving, and 3) the XF is a 1.7 tonne 4 door saloon, the 911 Carrera is a 1.4 tonne coupe. Oh and 4) the porsche costs twice as much.
