Audi A3 Black Edition released (UK)
Audi A3 Black Edition - UK

Audi dresses the A3 in black

Black is appropriate for the occasion, don't you think? It is a color that spells humility and keeps us in deference to these troubled times.

So here Audi releases the A3 Black Edition for each of the 3 A3 variants - the 3-door hatchback, 5-door fastback and the cabriolet. The Black Edition, in standard Brilliant Black paint (other paints are optional and cost extra), features goodies such as a de-chromed front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels from the S-line in an exclusive dark titanium finish, and privacy (tinted) glass extended from the B-pillar in the closed top models. For the cabriolet, there is black outlining of the roll bars and shoulder line.

The black theme continues on the interior with high gloss Piano-black inlays, part leather-upholstered sports seats from the S-line, and, well, lots of things in black, such as speaker boxes.

The package costs 905 UK pounds (about 952 euros) and Audi claims it actually costs less than purchasing those options separately with the S-line.

Okay, Audi, we'll bite. Black looks good. But once this global depression is over we're gonna go crazy and wear orange and red and all the colors of the rainbow. And you'd better be ready for that.

Black is the new white for the Audi A3

Black Edition specification further enhances sought-after three-door, five-door Sportback and Cabriolet ranges

  • New Black Edition special edition versions of A3, A3 Sportback and A3 Cabriolet now available to order priced from £22,215 OTR to £27,395 OTR - first deliveries in February 2009
  • Enhanced Black Edition specification is based on top S line trim and available in conjunction with 1.8 TFSI (160PS), 2.0 TFSI (200PS), 2.0 TDI (140PS) and 2.0 TDI (170PS) engines
  • De-chromed exterior available in five colour schemes - Brilliant Black or Ibis White are no cost
  • " Privacy glass (for hatchback versions), dark titanium alloy wheels, Xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights and acoustic parking (for Cabriolet models) among the extras added

New Audi A3 Black Edition models emerge from the shadows this month to join the popular three-door, five-door Sportback and Cabriolet ranges. Combining dark and brooding looks with an exceptional specification that takes the top S line model as its basis, the new limited run A3 range can be ordered now priced from £22,215 OTR to £27,395 OTR, and will reach the UK in early February.

To set the tone, Black Edition models feature a de-chromed front grille and, in the Cabriolet versions, black surrounds for the roll bars and the shoulder line. 18-inch S line design alloy wheels with an exclusive dark titanium finish continue the theme in all three variants, and in the hatchbacks privacy glass extends from the B-pillar. For the full effect, these features are combined with Brilliant Black paint at no extra cost, but the fashionable no-cost option of Ibis White and the extra cost metallic options Phantom Black, Misano Red and Monza Silver are also available.

They may keep a lower profile in some respects, but the A3 Black Editions also make their presence very much felt in others, thanks not only to their sporting S line body styling treatments but also to their standard fit Xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lamps.

Black interiors too

Inside, the Black Editions are marked out by high gloss Piano black inlays, and the already extensive S line specification is enhanced by a high output Bose speaker system, acoustic rear parking sensors and an exclusive flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel.

The S line package also offers sports suspension, part leather-upholstered sports seats, electronic climate control and an Audi Concert audio system with single CD player and MP3 compatibility. In Cabriolet Black Edition models, available exclusively with a black acoustic hood, it also includes fully automatic hood operation and a wind deflector.

The new Black Edition specification is available in conjunction with the 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engines (160PS and 200PS) and the two advanced 2.0 TDI common rail engines (140PS and 170PS). It carries a premium of £905 over the equivalent S line model in each case which, when the additional equipment it offers is taken into account, represents a customer saving of £675 on the A3 Black Edition and £650 on the A3 Cabriolet Black Edition.

Makes the car looks better than it actually is. (I guess that's the point). I like those wheels, but cannot stop thinking that it is a copy of BMW's M wheels.

im guessing you've never looked at any audi RS model right? they are clearly the same style. they debuted on the 2006 RS4 and have appeared on many 'special' versions of audi vehicles to give them some sort of a connection with their higher power siblings. these particular wheels are also available as a manufacture upgrade on most of the cars in the audi line up. im guessing your comments to bmw relate to the e46 or maybe even e36 m3 wheels which are a 10 spoke twin arm polished alloy wheel, or maybe even the m6 wheel, which is a 5 spoke wheel of a similar make up. whereas the audi rs wheel is of a twin arm 7 spoke design... if you are saying that either of these two look similar it would be because they are both of twin spoke design and therefore every other design aspect is rendered useless. you may as well go further in saying that all wheels look too similar because of their familiar round shape... good day

Ignore his comments, he's just a BMW fanboy who twists everything written about Audi to undermine the company. Anyway, the car is bound to look pretty fresh despite its aging.

Effington looks way too hard into things. Take your car for a drive and relax. It's o.k.

Audi had Black Editions with their RS4 and RS6 back in 2002, long before Mercedes came out with their Black Series.
