The bottom isn't completely falling out of manufacturer participation in motor sports. There is still some romance left in racing, after all.

Here we have a spy peek at the new Nissan GT-R FIA GT. You can check out the source links below for all the rumor you like, speculation seems to be that this one will come with a V8 with around 600 hp.

What you can see are a new front bumper and skirt made of carbon fiber, a massive rear wing, skirts all around, Plexiglass windows, and lots of air ducting, with large intakes at the side/rear, likely for the rear brakes.

That last item makes seem credible speculation that this GT-R will be a rear-wheel drive. GTR Center, linked below, has two sets of specs they consider likely for this racing model, one for FIA GT1 and another for Le Mans.

For the dedicated amongst you, you may already have a subscription to Auto Sport magazine, from which these leaked photos come from. Or you can just fly to Japan and nab one off the magazine rack at the airport in Tokyo and fly right back. They will likely have all the details in their next issue.

Nissan reckons the GT500 GT-Rs can produce up to 900hp but are restricted to 500hp

probably - but most engines can put out a lot more than they're set to for pricing reasons or competition regulations. especially if they have forced induction - just a slight tweak of the boost can double the power.

A V8 with turbos can hit 1400whp easily so who cares....the power limit in almost all classes is around 600. Nissan would choose a V8 because it would make power with less stress which is good in FIA GT where the shortest races are 3-4 hours, others 6 and the grand daddies at least 12 hours. Nissan would be ensuring long term durability in a race with a V8. Besides their V8s are great.

This car will win championships like its predecessors before it also like it did this year in Super GT. It might be a strong possibility for a 1st place class finish at Le Mans.

rear wheel drive, limited electronic driving aids are only few of the FIA GT series regulations which GT-R cant be driven without...GTR is just a computer removing the motherboard from it, it would be just a shell left. looking forward to seeing lambo moving one up in the score board, c'z with GT-R there, lambo wont be dead last all the time, it would be second last and GT-R will takes lambos previous years place.(if it GTR dosent crash in every corner.!)

Have a look at the GT500 GT-R Race cars they are rear wheel drive with no driving aids and its already been given restrictions via weight and detuning because its to fast.

This is great news, good to see Nissan back in action in real racing again and its good to have GT have new blood in the water.

I'm hoping Nissan will look at the australian touring cars (v8 super-cars) and bathurst and put a V8 GT-R like this in against the Holden's and fords, would be like back in 1990 then the r32s gt-rs were racing but were banned because they were to fast even with over 150kgs added and hp restricted.

I could see that, Nissan has 2 V8 motors to choose from. The 4.5 or 5.6 though for race reasons, eligibility, i'ld think they'd go with the 4.5

Yes the 4.5 pumps out heaps of power and torque like the gt500(4.5lt) gt-rs they amp up to 900 ponies with no turbos, i noticed the engine is very low to the ground and they use a six speed sequential gearbox set behind the engine unlike the r35 gt-r rear positioned transmission. i cant wait to see the outcome of this v8 version.

If they just make this engine as an option in the normal GTR, i really can't imagine what i'll do to the roads

They have to, there has to be a certain number of road-going models made for this car to be able to compete in FIA races. Though im sure those models will be quite expensive.
