A drag-racing Porsche 911? Why? Well, why not? Although Porsche's iconic sports car hasn't traditionally been a drag-strip competitor, the car's rear-engine, rear-drive layout is actually ideal for drag racing. Porsche specialist 9ff has just unveiled the DraXster, a boosted, 911-based supercar whose focus seems to be quarter-mile domination. It's a high-horsepower, high-torque lightweight 911 whose lack of aerodynamic aids suggests that it's not intended for sustained high speeds but rather maximum acceleration.

The DraXster's 4.0 twin-turbo flat six puts out an estimated 1300 hp (970 kW) and 877 ft-lb (1190 Nm) torque. The car has also been lightened to 1168kg, and 9ff reports a 9.5-second run to 161mph (260 km/h). Yes, the DraXster is faster than a Bugatti Veyron. Thanks to the lack of adornments, the DraXster is low-key, with very few exterior details to distinguish it from any other 911.

Pricing, quarter-mile times and top speed for the DraXster have not been released.

1/4 mile time wasn't released? Was it spending all its time doing burnouts on the start line with all that power?

Hitar and grave so you both are saying all drag racing cars are complete pointless? If so then why do so many of them exist...

Is this a 996 or a 997? The front end is a 997 GT3 RS but the back is a 996 Turbo.

It's a 996, with a 997 front end. The door handles and the side sills give it away right away. Not to mention the rear.

I think this car is amazing. But that's just me. And MTC I was confused as well if this is a 996 or 997..

Do people on this site really not understand the appeal of drag racing?

it DOES take skill aka its a game of "reaction time". who ever has a better reaction time leads to a better time IF they have similar powered cars. i mean... yayyyyy funnnn... but rally racing for example is a much more entertaining sport?? so is F1, and MAYBE nascar (the crashes mostly :P)...

really? I find all motorsports besides drag racing incredibly boring. It might take more skill to race f1 or rally, but I can't be bothered to spend that much time paying attention... mind you I dislike all televised sports for the same reason.

yeah...it must be sooo easy driving a 1300hp car down the 1/4 mile...even a 8 year old kid can do it.

I think the biggest challenge to drag racing is finding that throttle balance at the start to take off as hard as you can without wasting all the power in wheelspin. Whilst drag racing isn't my favourite form of motorsport, it has as much point as any other competitive sport.

I'd like to try and park this 1300 hp Porsche on a hurry. THAT WOULD BE IMPRESSIVE.

that is true joe... however, i was talking about skills and comparing SKILLS... rallying, F1, drag eacing. each have different sorts of skills, i just find rallying and F1 a much more... lets say... worthy skill. cuz in drag racing, you really just need to have a good reaction time, and a pair of stainless steal balls to drive an uncontrollable, 5000hp monster.

and also... what kind of car enthusiast are you if you don't like either F1 or rally racing?? oh yea... an american one :P!!! --- jokess dude eassyyy

each person has their kind of racing. nuff said haha

I like the numbers, I like the looks, I like actually driving. I hate sitting watching other people have all the fun. If I had the chance, I would drive stock cars, rally cars, le mans cars, formula cars, drag cars, monster trucks, trophy trucks... etc etc. All of that stuff would be amazingly fun.

carcrazy1234, you lost me there. bavarianMS - don't know, too many tra-la-la people perhaps. joe_limon - what appeal? drag racing - interesting? oh, lord... well then, it won't hurt if i say i find drag racing incredibly boring, probably the most boring motorsport ever.

really? its the loudest, has the most flames, has explosions, and best of all you only have to watch 2 or 3 runs to get your fill. Their engines are more like well timed bombs, while most motor sport engines are restricted to the point of redundancy. I dunno, to each their own I guess.

hitar_potar

'n still, i find it boring. i admit, the engines are like well timed bombs... but that's all. most motor sport engines are restricted, while the drasters' ones aren't... however drag racing is restricted by the length of the racetrack - 1/4 mile, right? and they do around 400km/h at the finish, correct? that's what i don't like - they start, and just when things start getting interesting, boooom, the parachute goes out to stop the car. i would find it far more interesting to see what kind of speed would the top fuel drasters do after a km of acceleration...
