BMW have long denied the M version of its X5 SUV, but these denial days are well and truly over. BMW WebTV has just released this video of an X5 M prototype undergoing product testing. The video features BMW exec Bernd Limmer describing the characteristics all 'M' models must possess. "M means precision, M means true character, that should remain equal in every situation" he explains.
Unfortunately the video stops short of stating the true performance stats many are eager to hear. We can however, speculate that it will be higher than 500HP/373kW since this is roughly the power currently produced by the most potent lot at this level.
The release of this video enhances the possibility the X5 M's unveiling is imminent, and with the Detroit show less than three weeks away, it doesn't take a brain box to work out where it could be.

"M" used to stand for high-revving engines, RWD, and a manual tranny
Now "M" stands for Marketing
Think about that those who have money for that kind of car doesn`t go to the track in the powerful SUV, and so there is worthless to say that this one handles better than other one...and there goes bad sales of M-cars again :)
Believe me...M powered BMW sales are way under AMG`s and Porsches, because when someone gives 150 000€ for a SUV don`t want to drive just BMW...it is too low clas!!!
Have a nice day
(and also I would never give more than 80 000€ for a BMW) for a +100 000€ range I want at least Merc or Porsche
...again have a nice day
perhaps you should think about this: most people can't just throw 150k at a porsche badge, they will actually test drive each of the competitors first, and if this turns out to be a more enjoyable drive then only a true fool would choose the porsche merely for the badge. and bmw low class? i'm interested to know where you've been for the past few years, bmw and merc are one of the few really even competitors in the luxury levels.
i'll give you amg outsold m, but a roughly (i think) 15% difference in sales is hardly enough to categorically determine that amg makes better cars than m.
if you were paying over 100k you'd only go for a porsche or a merc? well, fair enough, you're entitled to buy a badge instead of a good car.
=)
I don`t think so...BMW M6 is outruned by many AMG`s (55, 63 and 65) and CLK-DTM-AMG and Black Series...and are driven by those who put more than a 300 000€ for a car and drives it proudly, now think of that same person in BMW M6...it would be funny and weird for them to drive in such a cheap car!!!
Because BMW is owned even by our poor neigbour...yes an E46 M3....funny than for someone to have the same badge :P
the m6 is overrun by the cl or sl with a 65 engine? so a what, 6.0 litre bi-turbo V12 beats a naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V10? wow, i never would have guessed!! and a ferrari enzo will rip a honda accord to bits, mate. try to compare competitors, it makes you appear more knowledgeable. the m6 and sl/cl aren't competitors.. for example, comparing a cl63 against an m6 is also pointless, as the difference in weights makes it an easy mercedes win.
i want to know just how wealthy you are to call an M6 cheap; i've never heard it called so before. a car's price is not necessarily directly linked to how good it is either - think nissan GT-R. and just for the record, i happen to know billionaire who drives a bmw x5 4.8is and a holden statesman; and it's not funny and wierd at all - he found two cars he likes and bought them. not all of us need half-million euro cars to make our... anatomy appear larger, sir.
calling your neighbour poor shows you are a snobbish fool. if you've ever been in an E46 m3, you'll know they are superb cars, despite being what you call "cheap". and an interesting point on the badge, i could swear a merc A180 carries an identical badge to that of the S65 - it's like a pointy three-armed star in a circle, and i'm damn sure it's identical!! =)
am i alone in thinking this guy doesn't know the first thing about modern cars?
Having said that, I'm a little puzzled by your comment about the weight difference between the M6 and the CL making the CL an easy winner. The CL is heavier, and it won't actually beat the M6 around corners because that isn't part of it's brief as a big 2 door S-Class.
But don't let me let you think that for a second i agree with any of the sentiment that swifthead has made because I don't. On my street there are 3 DB9s, a couple of 911s, some Bentleys and an SLR - alongside C-Classes, Golfs and even a Ford Focus ST. A "good" badge or a high price doesn't necessarily mean a good car.
i'm not actually that fussed about any of this, i just don't like swifthead coming in and saying all of that cr** which he obviously doesn't have any idea about.
oh and the sl63 being a competitor - the new one is, but it used to be sl55 and sl65 against the m6, so they never really lined up against eachother
btw, respect for your street!!
Soo what im expecting from the BMW in their new car ((X5 M)) is something that will blow off the minds of the people who are neglecting about the BMW would never rise up to Mercedes or Porsche
It's called 'the ultimate driving machine' for a reason.
The only thing awesome about the mercs is that crazy noise they make!
