First look at the AMG version?

Caught by WCF reader "Nikolaus", these are the best shots yet of the new 2010 Mercedes E Class Coupe with nearly all its camouflage removed.

A rear diffuser and what seems to be a taped up AMG logo on the boot lid suggest this prototype could be the E63 AMG Coupe. But Mercedes' models from the AMG division all feature a quad exhaust layout whereas this prototype has the rectanglular twin exhausts mimicking the style seen on the recent leaked official photos of the regular E Class Sedan. The front end sports a grille featuring two horizontal bars, a style which differentiates this variant from the sedan and estate variants of the new E-Class line-up.

The engine range is likely to be shared with the rest of the E class range. That includes a 3.5 liter V6, a 5.4 liter V8 and an uprated 6.2 liter AMG V8. Diesels will likely also be on offer for the cabriolet, given how quiet they've become in recent years. Mercedes new generation of clean diesels expected in the cabriolet are: the 200, 220, 250 and 300 CDI, as well as the 350 BlueTec at the top of the range.

The E-Class Coupe will debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show alongside the sedan variant, the cabrio and AMG versions will follow later in the year in Frankfurt.

My favourite part is the CL style pillarless windows. Going to be a great alternative for people that can't afford the CL.

Now if they could do this with the C-Class, now that would be awesome.

Looks great. Hood is very 6-series-esque. Rear haunches are very ML meets S6 wagon. Profile is very CL-esque. As for the article mentioning AMG ... no AMG covered up anywhere. Looks like it'd be E350 Coupe

I don't know what it is...I want to like some of these new Mercedes...I just can't get into their bow-shaped belt lines...I find them very odd, and unsightly...just my opinion

AMG logos are always placed on the right side of the boot hood. This is surely not AMG. AMG's look a lot more aggressive. But the car as a whole as always looks great!

Maybe...you should look at the rear 3/4 shot, and the taillight shape that's uncomfortably close to that of a Camry or Lexus IS. Other than that, it's a fine looking car. Certainly better than the C.

Given that Lexus itself is the ugly Japanese twin of Mercedes, if Mercedes imitates a Lexus trend and improves it with its own style, it's actually not imitating Lexus.

I love the led running lights and the overall serious look of this new E coupe. Also notice the rear fender sweep to the back as with MBs recent Fascination Car. I know that once we see the real car, no one will ever mistake this Mercedes for a Lexus.

Designer to CEO:

Okay. I have some extra clay. I think... now this is just a shot in the dark here... I'm going to make some rear haunches. Yes, rear haunches. Oh I have a deadline? Okay, give me 30 seconds here....*28 seconds* TADA! Okay I know it's not the best, but hey, the rest of the car is great!? Right?

This actually looks pretty decent. I liked the rear end, so much better than the sedan's in the leaked photos.

This is definitely not an AMG version because AMG logos are always placed on the right hand side of the boot hood. What irritates me much more is the rear side window. Is it really split or is there only a piece of tape to fool the photographers??? A split window would destroy the whole look!

I like how it looks larger then the current CLK. This really looks good, cant wait until they show this car and the new E-class!

I'm just loving this car! It has a very aggressive stance, but I'm also worried about that third window... I would think that Mercedes is just trying to fool the photographers, since this part was plain black in previous pics. I also think that they should offer this coupe with a sedan grille, like the CE class of yore...

OH BOY! I cant wait till this comes out, i still hope they offer it with the luxury grill on it. And I guess I do kinda see the Lexis IS tail lamps, but seeing as Lexus is a rip off of Mercedes anyweigh and have stolen things from Mercedes all their time building rebadged Toyotas *cough* Lexus GS400 headlights=w210 headlights* I dnt see much of a prblm with it.

I really do like this car though, I can't wait.

I do like the look of the headlights of some of the new Merc....ie. the C-class, the ML and the S-class. They gotta get over those round ones in my opinion.

I want to say a few things, I have always purchased silver/black Benzes, yet this car in white is very attractive, as a co worker owns a c300 sport in white and great lines. I dont understand the market for this car as it will decimate CL sales or I could be wrong, love the lines on this car. the one thing that turned me off to the CL was I thought it was too long of a car, and this seems just right anyway thanks for letting ramble

Agree. Smaller and yet for much lower price than CL. Beautiful car, even neaty in a way.
