Mercedes McLaren SLR Stirling Moss

aka Speester and Gullwing Revival

It was only a matter of time until leaked images surfaced. WCF sources warned that press materials on the “SLR Speedster” were distributed to print publications and finally The Netherland's AutoVisie has given us a nice little gift for the holidays.

According to a rough machine translation diligently provided by GermanCarZone.com, the true name can finally be revealed: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss - a tribute vehicle to the legendary Sir Stirling Moss who is most famous for his 1955 Mille Miglia victory in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR.

This modern day interpretation is equipped with the 650 HP supercharged V8 from the standard SLR which pushes to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 350 km/h (210 mph).

The Stirling Moss edition SLR represents the final series of the Mercedes-Benz SLR of which only 75 will be built in the McLaren facility in Woking England. Production begins in June 2009 and will only be available to the most loyal SLR clientèle.

It was only six months ago when the first spy images, renderings and video of the roofless SLR, dubbed “speedster” and “gullwing revival,” appeared and already these leaked images suggest a possible surprise debut in Detroit next month. Already crippled with numerous major auto makers withdrawals, a high profile supercar debut is just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately its not coming from one of the ailing Big Three.

no windshield, is that how mercedes does things? but this car's design is really questionable...some nice mods like the exhaust and rearlights, and some that resembles the old vehicle a little too much for it to fit in this age of vehicles

I'm almost never an MB styling fan, but I have to agree. This car could make a great production model with a windshield, metal body, and a bit more conservative approach.
