Indian carmaker Tata to sponsor Ferrari

Despite the global financial crisis, Ferrari has inked a new sponsorship deal with a car manufacturer.

The famous Italian formula one team will add Tata, an Indian multinational, to its roster of backers in 2009, president Luca di Montezemolo told Italian media on Wednesday.

"For the first time an Indian brand will appear on the Ferrari," he said. "It's historic."

A Ferrari spokesman confirmed the deal, with the details set to be announced in due course.

Tata was associated with the Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan's formula one career, first with Jordan in 2005 and subsequently at Williams.

Desiathate - when last have you hear of a Indian Race time that was actually successful. Never, to my account there has never been a international race team let along a successful driver.

do u watch Formula 1 mate?? :) if not, then, please do!!

@demanero, @desiathate. Don't you people know what the meaning of "sponsor" is!!!! Tata is not making the car! The car will have a few Tata stickers on it! It's like saying Vodafone or Panasonic (Ferrari F1 sponsors) made the car that they are sponsoring.

Sris, I said successful, just because you can drive a f1 car does not make you successful. and yes I watch f1 and know the name. so try again, if you trying to insult my intelligence.

and thought I mention Sris - Narain Karthikeyan hasn't made a top 10 career finish since being in F1.

I'm not trying to insult u at all.. :) Force India has been in the scene only for a year, n well, hadn't it been for the Ferrari driver, would have scored 5 points in Monaco n a few more in Singapore, which was again spoiled by Ferrari.. Motor sports in India is just growing, n is still at a nascent state.. give it time, as one of them here said, the West ridiculed the idea of the Japanese being succesful in racing, but then they have proven a point.. n even countries which have an amazing racing history, say the US, doesn't have any sort of representation in F1, n pardon me if I jumped over a small sponsorship by some 'xyz' company.. TCS, Tata Consultancy Services has been working with Ferrari for about 4 years.. n the Tata~Fiat partnership is something that is going to take both the company to places.. n their ties have been strengthened even more by this sponsorship from Tata, eho r bringing in Ferrari into India, which is fast becoming one of the fastest growing automobile markets in the world, even when the economy is going through a slump.. Narain Karthileyan, well, he was in Jordan, for heaven's sake, a team which was only better than Minardi in '05.. n well, his short lived carrer in F1 was because racing in India, as I said is still nascent n there r very few companies which come forward n sponsor drivers.. Cricket is the sport in India n it takes up all the money.. give India some time, n please just dont write it off.. :)

A new international Formula 1 circuit is coming up in Greater NOIDA near New Delhi. Indian industrialist Vijay Mallya of UB Group, USL, world's number 2 Spirits company, Kingfisher Airlines and Breweries, hotels and what not had a stake in Spyker Formula 1 team and in 2006 he bought it and renamed it Force India F1, http://www.forceindiaf1.com/ TATA's may not be a very high-tech company but they sure dream of becoming one. They developed Nana, they are working on a compressed air driven car and also an all electric and hybrid cars. Needless to say they own Land Rover and Jaguar and they might buy Hummer too... TATA's also own a stake in Fiat and a major stake in Fiat India, hence the Ferrari connection. Ferrari is looking at India as a major market in years to come so it is no surprise that they picked up Tata as sponsor. BTW, only a few major TATA ownerships include: Taj Mahal brand of hotels world wide (the one attacked in Mumbai is owned by them too), Glaceau Water, Vitamin Water, Tetley Tea, Corus Steel, Orient Exress Hotel stake, Daewoo Commercial Trucks division, Tata Motors, TCS (largest IT consultancy company in India), Tata Mobile, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels, Hotel W at Woolloomooloo Bay in Sydney, The Pierre, a luxurious landmark hotel on New York?s Fifth Avenue, Campton Place Hotel in SF, Citigroup back office. They are more than $30 Billion... MAN DO I SOUND LIKE A TATA GROUP SPOKES PERSON of WHAT. Curry comes standard with deep pocket Tata.
