Despite the global financial crisis, Ferrari has inked a new sponsorship deal with a car manufacturer.
The famous Italian formula one team will add Tata, an Indian multinational, to its roster of backers in 2009, president Luca di Montezemolo told Italian media on Wednesday.
"For the first time an Indian brand will appear on the Ferrari," he said. "It's historic."
A Ferrari spokesman confirmed the deal, with the details set to be announced in due course.
Tata was associated with the Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan's formula one career, first with Jordan in 2005 and subsequently at Williams.

TATA's may not be a very high-tech company but they sure dream of becoming one. They developed Nana, they are working on a compressed air driven car and also an all electric and hybrid cars. Needless to say they own Land Rover and Jaguar and they might buy Hummer too... TATA's also own a stake in Fiat and a major stake in Fiat India, hence the Ferrari connection. Ferrari is looking at India as a major market in years to come so it is no surprise that they picked up Tata as sponsor. BTW, only a few major TATA ownerships include: Taj Mahal brand of hotels world wide (the one attacked in Mumbai is owned by them too), Glaceau Water, Vitamin Water, Tetley Tea, Corus Steel, Orient Exress Hotel stake, Daewoo Commercial Trucks division, Tata Motors, TCS (largest IT consultancy company in India), Tata Mobile, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels, Hotel W at Woolloomooloo Bay in Sydney, The Pierre, a luxurious landmark hotel on New York’s Fifth Avenue, Campton Place Hotel in SF, Citigroup back office. They are more than $30 Billion...
MAN DO I SOUND LIKE A TATA GROUP SPOKES PERSON of WHAT.
Curry comes standard with deep pocket Tata.
