Ford hasn't even delivered on the promised V6 EcoBoost engine and already they have a 4 banger version coming too.

According to the Detroit News Auto Insider, Ford is working on an EcoBoost version of its basic 2.0 liter engine block. No details have been made available as to the power output of the 2.0 liter EcoBoost - a 4 cylinder, direct-injection, turbocharged engine. What is known is that it will likely make its debut in the Ford Fusion in 2010.

Ford may also be developing an EcoBoost version of the 1.4 liter, a naturally aspirated engine currently in use in its European model range.

The V6 EcoBoost is a 3.5 liter engine that, according to Ford, promises the power of a V8 and is aimed at providing greater fuel economy for larger vehicles. The V6 EcoBoost is slated to go into service on the upcoming 2010 Lincoln MKS, which will be launched in mid-2009.

Direct-injection gasoline engines, combined with turbocharging, are nothing new in Europe. But those technologies are still new or a rarity in the volume US market. And one wonders why the Big 3 are in such trouble?

You should "just" begin writing the complex algorithms required for this technology, and we'll see how "old" you are before it gets completed. DI is still cutting edge. Infiniti hasn't even adopted it to the VQ yet. It isn't easy or cheap to mass produce. Give them a break.

Ahaaa...! Why did I not think of earlier? Oh that's right, I make Ford F 150, the best selling vehicle in North America, more than any other car or truck.

So uhm... CO2 is harmful? They consider it a greenhouse gas which ultimately leads to global warming (puts tinfoil hat on). But... doesn't water vapor do the same thing? (takes off tinfoil hat)

DI is not new, nor is it well accepted by everyone in the auto industry.
